Guest guest
Hello, I have a 2 1/2 year old with speech apraxia (our SLP feels it is moderate to severe). We have just started the process to transition into the school system. I am trying to get all the information I can ahead of time to be prepared to fight for the ST that he needs to get. Everything I have read is that kids with apraxia need 1:1 ST 2- 3x/week. I doubt the school system will go with this. My question is, what do I need to bring to the meeting? and what to do if I am not happy with what they offer? I know not to sign the IEP. Do I bring some of the books that I have about apraxia which have the recommened ST? Our Early Intervention SLP is great and will stand by us for what he needs. I am also going to have an independent evaluation done before the meeting. If I have documentation (books) and 2 evaluations can the school still deny him? What would be my next step? a third evaluation? I know it is going to be a fight and I am just trying to get prepared. I would appreciate any input from those of you who have gone through this.
