Guest guest
this is a wonderful program - spoke with this gentleman today - I will bring info to conference - it would be great if we could get facilities such as this all over the state, and maybe the nation!!! terry From Dan Webster Terry - thank you for speaking with me this morning. A little background information might help both of us as we continue our dialogue.I first became interested in the problems of people with disabilities several years ago when I hired a disabled young man to drive a delivery route for a mobile dry-cleaning business I owned. Over time, I learned from this young man and from others about the challenges disabled people face every day - finding decent employment, living with subtle and overt forms of abuse and discrimination in the workplace, public indifference to their needs and a host of other troubling realities that make up the daily fabric of their lives. As a consequence, I find myself " drafted " to do this work. I am now an advocate for people with disabilities. God help me. And my mission is to create as many jobs as possible specifically for this disabled population in our community. Charity Cleaners only employs people with disabilities, we pay $15.00 per hour, our employees have benefits and profit sharing. If you don't have a disability, you can't work here. Nobody who works here makes " slave " wages. They earn a living wage and they have the opportunity to accumulate assets from their labor. We are trying to combine the best of " capitalism with a conscience " with an NPO with a heart to do something that simply doesn't yet exist in our culture. I am trying to use my marketing and business development experience to help develop a Non Profit work - a mobile dry cleaning business - which is committed to providing employment for people with disabilities. I hand-picked the Board myself - they are all very successful business people with children of their own who have disabilities. I have attached to this email a PDF file - I call it an Internet brochure. Please read it and let me know if you have any wisdom to share with me or our Board on a best way to do this. Right now, this is a marketing test. The geography we cover is the eastern third of Monmouth County. If we are successful with this marketing effort, we hope to reproduce the same results all across the United States. Let me know what you think. And please send me a return email so I know you received this information. Background: Charity Cleaners was formed when a group of business people, who have children with developmental disabilities, met the owner of a mobile dry-cleaning service who for years has employed only individuals with developmental disabilities. The result of this meeting was a new business - Charity Cleaners. And we have a mission: Mission: Charity Cleaners is a residential mobile dry-cleaning service committed to two goals: First - to enable people with disabilities to earn a decent living so they can become financially self-supporting and socially independent. Previously, their job " opportunities " were mostly minimum wage jobs. We intend to change that. We offer employment to people with disabilities to empower them to earn a decent living, while developing job skills that will serve them for life. Second - to produce business profits from cleaning peoples' clothes for donation to The Arc of Monmouth, a federally registered Non Profit Organization that provides employment, vocational and education services, adult training, community living programs, health and mental health care, social services and recreation to people with disabilities. Charity Cleaners offers this mobile dry-cleaning service to the public without mass marketing or advertising. Our focus is on raising funds, not spending them. We believe that " word of mouth " endorsements are the most powerful marketing and advertising tools in the world. And we do not solicit charity donations. Instead, we offer a business service - residential mobile dry-cleaning - at competitive rates. Everybody wears clothes and they are going to be cleaned somewhere. We are asking you to let us clean your clothes. The profits we produce from this business service provide employment for people with disabilities and charity donations to The Arc of Monmouth, a Non Profit Organization with a mission similar to our own.
