Hi all,

I watched to movie on HBO. I wanted to share my opinion. I applaud the

person who started the idea of the show, but the whole thing was very

hard for me to watch. I understand the frustatrations of these parents

but it also showed such a negative over tone that you wonder what the

positives are. It also was too long I think. Obviously the parents had

some issues too. I understand why she ran out of money too, because they had so

much footage to shoot. Jeanne

It took me a long time to watch this online because my son doesn't let me sit

down at the computer for any length of time. I watched 10mins here 15 mins

there... eventually got through the 93 minute documentary. What I loved about

it may be what you disliked...I liked that they didn't hold back on showing the

bad stuff, and that the people who were involved with the " bad stuff " allowed

them to use the footage. I mean, hey, they could have cut those parts out. And I

am sure they did cut lots of stuff out. They left certain scenes in to show the

struggles. It shows the struggles families have to stay to together (or not stay

together in a number of these families). I liked that they showed the family

life of these kids and how they were raised, what they were like as little ones

and everything. My husband and I have difficulties and dissagreements when it

comes to dealling with our son. Through watching this we see the mistakes these

people made in

their relationships and don't want to make the same ones. So we become more

understanding of each other. Also, we see that other people do go through

exactly what we are going through, we are not the only ones.

I loved how they had such a diversity of kids. They touched on how these kids

were placed in the schools and how those placements for some were totally wrong.

Like the guy who seemed to be the most functional of all of them, Wyatt, they

showed his parents meeting with the school counsellor. the counsellor (without

ever meeting Wyatt) said, " from these scores I don't know how you can call your

son 'high functioning " . But to those of us watching the film, it was sometimes

hard to believe Wyatt was autistic at all.

And they showed the kids that had major communication problems using assistive

technology to say some pretty insightful things.

The production/ the show at the end was by no means a broadway production, but

the kids did there thing on stage infront of an audience with bright lights and

applause...major achievement for these kids.

I think everyone who has a kid with any issues that fall on the Autistic

Spectrum should give this documentary a watch. I wouldn't call it a " must-see " ,

but more a " should see if you have the time " .
