Okay we just started levocarn as well last week and boy does his

poop smell. It is also a dark black/brown which it has never been

but it is solid.

Yes, it is normal. It is a result of low the levocarnitine is broken

down in the bowel. You should be giving it with food because it could

cause stomach upset if you give it alone. In our case it greatly

improved our son's appetite. He jumped from the 5th to the 25th

percentile in height and weight. (My husband and I are both short so

this is perfect for him.) It also helps with digestive motility. Since

correcting his carnitine deficiency he has also had completely normal

(if a bit smelly) bowel movements.

That is good to know. He had his carnitine levels checked by his

DAN and they were in the basement. I think his were like a 4 and

they should be between 25-54. So I am suppose to work up to like 2

or 3 TSP per day. I have only been giving one so far and it has

helped his poop get better.
