You might want to try to find a metabolic specialist either

Neurologist or Geneticist that specializes in metabolic

disorders/diseases. They will be able to run more indepth labs and

hopefully help you find some answers.

Regressions when sick seem to be somewhat of the norm for many

apraxic children.

Well, this is the thing, he's having issues with his walking. He's always

had Blount's Disease (which is a severe bowing of the legs) but that has been

corrected with the braces, and is totally separate from the Apraxia. The

problem, however, is that there *IS* an element of walking that obviously needs

neurological " back-up " . so to speak. For 3 years, his body/legs have been

walking with his toes pointed all the way INWARD (in-toeing) so his

neuro-pathways tell him to CONTINUE walking that way, even though medically

speaking, he

doesn't have reason to. So we do have to concentrate on how to move those legs

outward and get the remnants of the medical reasoning out of the way, but

more so, re-training the neuro-paths to walk the correct way.

On Thursday when he woke up, it was literally like his legs were totally

asleep. I thought perhaps he had " pins and needles " and was walking that way to

get rid of the feeling. But then it was like that all day, and on Friday he

worsened still.

The PT suggested going to the OT just to rule out anything going on

orthopedically- but all of us KNOW it's definitely the Apraxia.

As far as I know-- he's NOT sick though. He's showing no other signs of

anything else. The one guess that I have, is that when he had the chicken pox

recently, he didn't have a huge amount of manifestation with pox, so I'm

wondering perhaps if the virus is sitting in his nervous system all this time,

not

really having anywhere to go, etc-- and that it's effecting his neuro system

and his walking.

That's my best guess really-- not sure how medically sound it is in theory--

but it makes sense to me.

I know that viruses will sometimes settle in the weaknesses of the child--

so if his weakness is the legs, a virus can settle there.
