Guest guest
Hi Jessy, Not sure how this fits with mito, however my son with autism and probably mito.. (lactate acid levels/ regresses with illnesses and almost 15). When he was a little kid.. umm age 2 he got sent for a behavioral hearing test. It was not mandatory at that time to screen newborns. Plus he regressed at age 15-18 months. Now I know that alot of our kids with autism that the parents thought they were deaf. But upon testing he could not also imitate... remind you that he was older and you can only really look at what a 9 month old should be able to do with variables of age. Anyways, my son has, was really bad around 2 years old.. hypesensitivity hearing meaning he hears to much and able to turn his hearing off. Yet he could hear. But to much!!! Like it bothered hin with the range fan on and the dishwasher on ,, even somehow knew where the electricity came in to the house and a lightbulb was gonna blow. He has incredible hearing, but for sensory reasons had to tune us out. Interesting you are seeing this at such a young age. Like I new he could hear but upon research.. Temple Grandin explains this so nicely.. she said it is like hearing is like being under a waterfall. There is auditory integration therapy .. but I never did it. A sensory diet might help. So you might want to get an occupational therapy evaluation. It is really hard to explain, but it works! We learned in school that we have only 5 scenses.. taste, seeing, hearing, smelling and hearing. Yet there is vestibular.. movement and how your body feels in the space it goes in and proprioceptive input which is pressure upon your body. And my son hated light input also. A sensory diet really was the key to help him... yet when he gets sick.. it all comes back. But that was all before our mito theory. Yet I truley think I have kept him alive many times using the methods of an OT. Also interesting to me is that I have a just turned 1 year old granddaughter that lives with me.. and she is so tuned in. But so was my son. Not sure what to say about sedation.. I mean you know she can hear. right or wrong? When he regressed at 17 months they speech therapist banged really hard on the desk behind him and he made no response,.. yet he could hear a videotape going in by his sister upstairs. There is also the other side of that.. hypoactive... Kathy
