Both of my kids have asthma. One mild to moderate and the other moderate to very severe. Son takes Flovent (the steroid component of Advair) and the other (seven year old with severe asthma) takes two puffs of Advair 250/50 in am and one in pm. Sixteen year old uses Albuterol puffer and seven year old uses Xopenex nebulizer. We have used Singulair in the past but it was ineffective for us--kids don't have allergies. Guest guest
, Thank you for responding. I wonder if activity induced asthma is muscle related. My kids also have asthma. The one that shows the most signs of mito, has the worst asthma. The pulminologist put me on the same meds that the pediatrician has my daughter on. This sure seems like it's connected to mito. Guest guest
I think it is somewhat common with mito. Grace has what is called cough varient asthma. She will go for months at a time with no problems, then will have a bad spell. She takes Albuteral if it is a short stent. If it goes on for awhile, and there is no end in sight we switch to Pulmicort, wich is a steroid. Not too sure about the medicines, but Grace had alot of problems with the side affects from different allergy meds. Even though most of them say they are non drowsy, Grace actually was blacking out from exaustion (this was from Zyrtec). Her allergist explained it that non mito people would not notice it, but due to the mito they just have no energy to spare. Grace also cannot have anything metabolized through the liver so it limits her. She takes Clarinex, wich works well and helps avoid the asthma from acting up. Guest guest
Thanks , I think they diagnose asthma on symptoms more these days. I couldn't run and breath even as a kid. It seems so obvious now that it's activity induced asthma, but with my heart condition, it was attributed to that. I'm optimistic I'll be feeling better soon. Thanks, Kim >
