Guest guest
My reading tells me the kids get their gut healed and if a gut/brain connection is the issue, brain function improves. If it is a gut/brain thing the brain stuff may get to " normal " before the gut is healed. Fish oil improves vitamin absorption and also helps heals the gut. The thing is, how do you know if fish oil and diet are enough or if steroids are needed, like in the case of EE or something EE like? Anybody know? I imagine allergy and asthma symptoms are a tip off.
Guest guest
Steroids are only needed of EE if the symptoms are REALLY bad, chronic, daily - ie esophageal strictures, daily vomiting, abdominal pain etc. But for EE other allergic interventions are also showing promise that don't have the long-term risks of chronic oral steroids. Inhaled steroids for example, and also singulaire are at least in case reports demonstrating benefit. (From personal experience, both have significantly helped my boys' gut issues). Also identifying and eliminating the offending allergen will often put EE into remission. Eosinophilic bowel disease is tightly linked to food allergy... " asthma of the gut " its been referred to as. But systemic (oral) steroids are nothing to be considered lightly. Although essential in short bursts for moderate asthma management, administered chronically they have many significant side effects. Much of the " healing of the brain " when the gut improves is likely linked to improved nutritional status...and poor absorption/increased utilization of key vitamins/nutrients/antioxidants in the environment of chronic inflammation. PS - I'm just occasionally lurking these days, so can't respond to emails directed to me routinely...as I will miss most of them. I will continue to keep the group updated on new findings or funding support. - > My reading tells me the kids get their gut healed and if a gut/brain > connection is the issue, brain function improves. Guest guest
As always. Thank you. I learn something from every post you generously make. I learn even more rereading them. God Bless! From reading your original E post yesterday I noted that ph will soon have a birthday. May he have a great one! claudia.morris wrote: > > > Steroids are only needed of EE if the symptoms are REALLY bad, > chronic, daily - ie esophageal strictures, daily vomiting, abdominal > pain etc. But for EE other allergic interventions are also showing > promise that don't have the long-term risks of chronic oral steroids. > Inhaled steroids for example, and also singulaire are at least in > case reports demonstrating benefit.
