Guest guest
Do those of you who have had the DS find that you have more energy than you did pre-op (after you have healed and some time has gone by)? I think this is the main reason I want this - I seem to be exhausted all the time and just making it through a normal day is too much for me. I didn't used to feel that way, but I think as I get older and with this extra weight, it just gets worse. Carole

However, I think I was expecting the energy of a early 20's thin person. I have to remember that I not only became morbidly obese but I have also grown older. I do have waaaayyyyy more energy physically and emotionally than I did before surgery. That is one of the main reasons I wanted to do this. I no longer had the energy to deal with my life. All of my " hustle " was leaving me. I could barely go, let alone, go, go , go. Being a working mom, dealing with my husband (I won't explain that), being a teacher of trying students (urban BD), I didn't have the energy to deal with it. It was beginning to affect my disposition. It is difficult to be at your best game with challenging students (that I love) when it takes you ten minutes to recover from getting to your fourth floor (no elevator) room. I now have so much more energy to deal with all of these things. Having patience with everything in life is much easier when you are not huffing and puffing from tying your shoes or taking shower. Guest guest
Absolutely, Carole! I don't know if it's just the loss of weight, the fact that I've done something positive for my life, the fact that I'm not suffering from GERD, apnea, and am in remission grom diabetes or a combination of all these factors and more! All I know is that I've cleaned out the garage (I'd been " thinking " of doing it for EIGHT YEARS!), started walking again and cleaned up a lot of paperwork I haven't had the mental energy to do, and am just rarin' to go in general! Definitely! Carole, before I had my DS, I slept horribly, with hip joint pain that emanated through my bones due to my weight. I often had to does myself up with ibuprofen in order to be able to sleep at night. I'd wake up in the morning and hobble out of bed like an old lady, bones creaking and muscles aching, shuffling along like my 80-year-old Granny. Hauling myself out of bed was no easy task in the morning. I knew that I had made the best decision ever in having the DS the morning I hopped out of bed effortlessly and felt light as a feather and RESTED. What a feeling. Yes, once your initial recovery is behind you and some weight is off, your energy will come roaring back, I promise you that! Carol, That was one of the main reasons I wanted the surgery too. Since I'm older (54) I figured that was part of the reason I was so tired and had so little pep. But now that I'm 5 mo. out and have lost 85 lbs. I feel great and have more energy than I've had in a long time. And it should only get better. The weight was draining and of course all the junk food I ate before just made me sluggish. Now I eat good food and hardly anything sweet as I don't really crave it. I'm so much healthier it isn't funny. You will be too!! Jackie Ward jward533@... Dr. Maguire BPD Surgery 3/19 5 months and down 85 lbs.
