Guest guest
Hi , I started my son with 2 capsules complete omega 3-6-9, 1 capsule pro-efa, and 1 capsule natural vitamin e. I've since doubled this but wanted to " tweak " what worked best for him. I'm lucky that my son will take this straight up without mixing it into anything, All I do is pierce the gelcap with a push pin and squeeze it onto a spoon. He loves it! One great idea here was to put it into a syringe with a little bit of juice with it if your son doesn't want to take it straight. It's harder to control the amount if mixed in a cup with juice as the oil tends to stick to the sides of the glass. hope this helps! Sandy [ ] Fish oil: Did I buy the right kind? I am very new to Apraxia, as my 22m. old son was just diagnosed in the last two weeks. I've read so many positive things about fish oil that I decided to try it for him. I purchased Nordic Naturals Complete Omega 3-6-9 liquid (w/ enhanced stabilizers it says). It contains purified deep see fish oil, borage oil and vitamin E. The bottle says it supports healthy skin, flexible joints, and strong immune function. I was unsure of whether I should have gotten something with just fish oil, or if the 3-6-9 omega stuff was better. Also, what dosage do you recommend for a 22m. old? According to the bottle, one serving -- One Teaspoon contains 675 mg EPA, 450 mg DHA, etc. Also, do you recommend mixing the liquid with food or drink or giving it by syringe/spoon? Does it make a difference? Thanks for any input you can provide this newby! Looking for the perfect gift? Omega 3-6-9 is the same as ProEFA. : If you are using the liquid Complete Omega 3-6-9 then what I pasted in should be correct for the amounts of Omega 3,Omega 6 and Omega 9. I also pasted in the amount of ProEFA/omega3-6-9 and ProEPA/EPA information for you to see the difference. Many use the formula 2 ProEFA + 1 ProEPA. Higher doses would be giving 3 caps. at breakfast, lunch and dinner to equal 6 ProEFA/3 ProEPA. Are you seeing any difference since you started supplementing? Guest guest
Hey, Just wanted to say that as far as the method of administering goes, I have had absolutely zero luck getting to take it off a spoon or a syringe. He won't open his mouth and if I force it in he just spits it all out. So, I put it in his juice. I experimented with other ways, like putting it in his applesauce and whatnot, but the juice is the only way he regularly takes it, especially since now he gets juice, which I never really gave him before. Some of the oil is lost in this method, as you probably won't get every bit out of the capsule and it does stick to the cup. But, I figure, if it's the only way he'll take it for now, better that way than not getting any at all. It makes it a little tricky to determine how much you are giving him. As of now, I do that with two Pro-EFA capsules a day, as well as the Super Nu-Thera multivitamin. We just started with those about a month ago, and it does seem to be helping, as he is now able to imitate certain sounds and finally learned how to blow. (Although I think that was also b/c I have been huffing and puffing enough to give the big bad wolf a run for his money!) I'm planning on adding vitamin E and possibly ProEPA in the future, so I'm going to have to get creative with this - I think putting all those in one juice wouldn't produce the most delicious drink, so... Anyway, best of luck to you! See if he'll take the oil straight, but don't sweat it if he won't. My best advice is just to get it in him however you can!
