Have you had an endoscopy to rule out esophagial erosions? You need to find this out before surgery. If your acid reflux (Gerd) is significant, your gastrointerologist will put you on medication. Also try a 12 " wedge under your matress. It does help and is not the same as using towels, blankets, etc to prop one end up. There are foods to avoid but I don't have the list in front of me. As far as Gerd, post-op, I don't know but would think it would improve.
Guest guest
Chris- I never had reflux until I was postop.. I think its an adjustment your body has to make. My dr gave me prevacid for it- I took it 1x/day for about 6-8 weeks.. now the reflux/heartburn is gone. YMMV, though. HTH, Liane > Do others have a lot of problems with Acid Reflux? Guest guest
Hi Chris: I have always had bad reflux, and now being a 20 month post op, I still have it severe. I take 2 prilosec a day, which does wonders for it. Patti > Do others have a lot of problems with Acid Reflux?

Guest guest
I have had acid reflux for years. I'm 8 weeks post op and although I still occaisionally have burning, its nothing like pre op. The DS procedure includes the removal of a portion of the stomach, so there are fewer acid producing cells. Dr Hess is optomistic that I will eventually be off Prevacid forever. As you heal from the surgery, you have less indigestion etc. Good luck, Meli - In duodenalswitch@y..., " Hawkins " <netmaker2@y...> wrote: > Do others have a lot of problems with Acid Reflux? My second post-op day was a pure GERD day. Thank goodness that I had taken a stash of Prilosec to the hospital in my ditty bag. And, DW ran out and got me TUMS. Dr. Elariny puts us on Prevacid for 30 days post-op, then Zantac. --Steve --
