Unaffected Foot being Affected!!!

Hi there,

It has been a long time since I posted here...mainly because

everything has been going so well!!

My son Ben was treated for unilateral clubfoot (l) by Dr. Pirani

almost 2 years ago and all turned out really well.

Ben is now 2.5 and I have noticed that his right foot is now turning

out! Dramatically...especially when he is walking. It appears that it

has even affected his toes...his big toe seems to turn right out and

the side of it not the end of it is at the end of his foot.

Just wondered if anyone had noticed this or had any ideas as to where

it came from....could it be from the boots and bar?

I spoke with Dr. Pirani over the phone but he said it was a difficult

thing to diagnose without seeing it (we are on the other side of the

country) and to take my concerns to our doc here. Well lets just say

I have doubts about my local docs skills........Should I bite the

bullet and take Ben over to BC or is this something my orthotist

should look at....

Help I need some advice!

Thanks

-Ruth

Can you take some pictures and email them to Dr.

Ponseti. I know he has helped many people with advice

through email after looking at the pictures that were

sent.

Ruth,

Are you near any of the Ponseti doctors on the east end of Canada

that are listed on Dr. Ponseti's website?

I think you should take some pictures of Ben's feet and email or

snail-mail them to Dr. Pirani, then follow up with a phone call to

see what he thinks.

You can also share the pictures with us via the cfpics group on

yahoo.

Keep us posted!

Sorry I should have read the posts before responding, I see someone

else (I think it was Jenni, I already forget), already suggested this.

Hi Ruth,

what degree is the shoe set on the unaffected foot? something similar

happened to my daughter when she was younger, and Dr. P had us reduce

the rotation on the shoe on that foot, from 45 down to 20 or so. To

encourage you, it took care of the problem; within a very short

amount of time.

What length is the bar? are the heels about shoulder width apart?
