Guest guest
Tina... Thats why I asked about taking it or not becuase I was trying to figure out when I was going to be able to take my pain med as you cannot take carafate and pain meds close together (one hour I believe) as they become inefective due to the coating of the pouch, etc. especially since the pain med is supposed to be taken every two hours. On page 25 of the book, section 4, there is a paragraph about taking carafate and it does say to be taken as directed for two weeks but....it also says you MAY be sent home with stool softener ond carafate. I'm pretty sure that this is where the confusion comes in. Anyway...I hope that no one gets the impression that I'm giving advice here...thats why I suggested to Barbara to recheck with the clinic for assurance. I did and I was told it didn't matter as long as I was holding everything down that I was eating and did not have nausea. I have been drinking about thirty ounces a day now but I'm still exhausted which is to be ex-pected at one week post-op. Guest guest
I took my pain meds every 3-4 hours...I managed to get my carafate in but it was tough! I'm glad I don't have to take that anymore. I also got liquid valium to relax my muscles (I WAY overdid it in the hospital). Funniest thing ever...I took my liquid valium and then had my son bring me a popsicle. About 2 hours later, he came in to see how I was doing and I fell asleep eating the popsicle. I had melted popsicle all over me. That was some good stuff! Good job on the water! That's great for 1 week post-op. I'm 6-1/2 months post-op and I'm still darn tired. I asked Dr. Baggs and he said it was normal. Dang! I can't wait to get 100% of my energy back. Guest guest
Gordy It's good to hear what is told to each of us, it could be that since Tina's surgery and mine 8 months ago things have changed. They are always changing things so we are old post op, or it could be individual cases in mine I had bad diarrhea for weeks, and in my case reflux and IBS, so maybe it's what they think is best for that individual. I think you're doing good, just keep upping the drinking, also eating the addictive SF popsicles count as water and they taste good. Tired takes a long time, when I went at my 3 month I said I was still getting tired a lot even though I was back to work, and they just say it's different for every one and remember you just had a major surgery, but keep pushing yourself and it gets better and it did. That is until I stopped absorbing the vitamins at 7 months, but now at 8 months and the upped doses I feel good again, so we recheck labs in Jan. and see how things really are. You take care and sound good.
