OMG, yes! We saw changes within just a few days! Josh, prior to TLP, was just

a scribbler. Within a few days of the first CD, he was drawing purposeful

lines, horizontal and vertical, he was more focused when doing work at the

table, and was getting his own milk out of the fridge. It's an amazing program!

The tantrums could be, and check this out with your OT of course, because there

is so much going on in his brain that he is working to sort it out - more

sensations and information coming in than he's used to and it can be pretty

overwhelming. We had a problem with the 4th CD - two days into it and Josh was

crying, sobbing uncontrollably, the next morning he got up from bed, pulled his

pants down and peed on his bedroom floor! The OT had us come in asap and she

changed the CD that day back to the first one - he was back to (the new) normal

within another two days.

This is a program for all of you who do TLP. We have been doing the

base program - twice a day, for three days now. Today, we have seen some really

positive changes - helping out, playing with his brother (rather than running

away from any game)

On the negative side, we have had tantrums. We got rid of these with GFCF diet

and supplements (started 3 months ago) so to see them back has been a bit

unwelcome.

My question is this - did anyone else see significant changes so soon?

We do see a ton of writing stuff with TLP in both kids. Anyone ever

told you what is behind that? Other than brain reorg?

We've been doing TLP for about two months now, and I haven't seen

anything obvious, positive or negative. I think we had a problem

with the headphones for the first two weeks, but plenty of time has

passed since then. Some people tell me it can take weeks for changes

to kick in, but so far... nothing.

I remember hearing it taking at least two months and that first

changes were gross motor. Our early and instant stuff was actually

atypical.

Again, I believe this is a factor of age.....

I never had too many WHOO HOOO moments with the Listening Program but it

definately did it's job. Neither did Kim with 4 Cuties whose son was 6/7 at the

time he used it. Actually we both saw the same things....

I saw some vestibular improvements right away. Mark had a great desire to

partake in more difficult sports and activities. There was no improvement to

fine motor but there was definately some risk taking with regards to gross

motor.

With regards to speech, Mark used to SPEAK REALLY REALLY LOUDLY AT INAPPROPRIATE

TIMES. He could not monitor his speech and seemed to have no clue as to how

loud or how softly he was speaking. Thus he was always 'off' in his pitch.

After about 2.5 months of the Listening Program this was gone FOREVER.... I am

happy to say. In addition, Mark used to have moments where sounds hurt his

ears. If we were to go to a hockey game or a baseball game, Mark would need to

cover his ears when the crowd cheered. It would be like an extreme shock to his

system. This has also dissappeared with this program.

We continued to use The Listening Program until we had every single one of

Mark's auditory processes under control and deemed to be at normal adult levels.

Because he had spent so many years with bad tonal processing, we wanted to be

sure that all of the benefits had been fully exploited. Often, these benefits

are subtle and work in conjunction with other therapies for my Mark. Can you

really see the benefits to the vestibular? No.... you just have to hope that it

is doing its job..... and really, it is.

I do notice that working with digit spans is slower now that we have quit The

Listening Program! The stimulation that it provides really does help with the

other work that you do.

So.... I now recognize that without the Listening Program we would not have set

the stage for the rest of the work that did actually provide 'noticeable'

results. I realize that my son can actually hear me when I speak.... when

before I thought he was just not paying attention! Silly me. Had we not done

TLP, digit spans would not have become normalized and probably Mark's balance

would still be off kilter.

We did not see any gains to tactility or fine motor control. Sadly we were too

far gone for that. I so wish that I could have had this when Mark was 3 so that

his fine motor function would not have been compromised like all of you guys!

It is almost to normal levels but I don't know that it will ever be perfect.

Sometimes I have trouble defining what IS perfect any more as I try to decide

whether or not we need to continue with a therapy..... It can get confusing.

Marks ambi- behaviour and his hands have really been the worst area. They are

much, much better but...... it has been a lot of therapy and a lot of work.

So..... if you don't 'see' all of the results that the other parents are

seeing.... not to worry. You may not always 'see' everything that TLP provides

since the ear is a mysterious item and affects function in so many small, odd

ways. Know that it is recommended that you continue to repeat TLP until you

have listened for a minimum of 40 hours. Check that in your manual since I may

be wrong on the exact hours. I used the old classic program and I know that

most of you have the newer version. People often make the mistake that you use

the program once and then you're done. Not so. We kept utilizing the program

until my childs auditory processing was completely better and his hearing &

auditory channels were normalized in their entirety (including switching his

dominance). The whole process took about a year and a half.

This gives me great hope. We had Woohoo moments on TLP for sure but

articulation is the current mountain. He properly articulated 10

words yesterday after two new things: a gummy omega 369, and an hour

of classical music. Not saying either had anything to do with it. I

cannot even say whats what anymore. He needed some form of omegas and

I gae him what he did not reject and he wanted music. The ten words

he said are all ones he has said before but the articulation was

never like yesterday. Then there was the heartbreaking loss. I can't

feed him those bears all day, the fish oils we try are getting

rejected, and I can't just have him listen to music all the time. I

am hoping that between what omegas and vitamins we can get in him

daily ( and yes I wil ltry the fish oil) and TLP and NACD and the new

ST he will, slow and steady over time get and maintain skills to get

where he needs to be. Since he ages out of EI today it is on my mind

for sure. We see the geneticist Tuesday, the hematologist next month

and I think it is time to check in with the GI.

We are so behind on writing and

drawing, you are giving me hope and the paints come out today!
