Guest guest
I plateaued at 2 weeks out for 3 weeks. Since that time and for the majority of what I have lost so far, I plateau for three weeks then drop a bunch of weight right before my period the plateau again. At first it drove me nuts...now I just figure I need to let my body do what it's gonna do and not drive myself nuts with it. People told me not to weigh every day...I had to, its just me. Now I weigh every 2 to three days just because I don't think about it. You'll get there! Everyone goes through the " Im gonna be the only one who fails at this " stage. Relax and enjoy, you will be losing again before you know it. Brynn 11 months post op

Patience, dear Gobo. Patience. It is most disheartening to all of a sudden stop losing a pound a day. But, we all go through it sooner or later. I am on my 3rd or 4th plateau already, and I have lost onlly 54 pounds. The most recent plateau was exacerbated by my PCP's cutting in half my dose of diuretic which he had prescribed to lower blood pressure. My blood pressure is OK, and in fact it is great, but my weight went up 3 lb.before falling back to where it was 10 days ago. --Steve, a slow loser -- Steve Goldstein, age 61 Lap BPD/DS on May 2, 2001 Dr. Elariny, INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Virginia Starting (05/02/01) BMI = 51 BMI on 08/07 =

Guest guest
Everyone is different and we've had several in my support group here in Washington that have hit plateaus in the first month...one did after the 2nd week. Are you taking measurments? You may be losing inches and your weight is waiting for your body to catch up!! Guest guest
Gobo, I'll be interested to hear what answers you get. I seem to be losing slowly and in spurts as well. I had my surgery 3 days before you and have had my incision open and also a terrible bout with the stomach flu. While dehydrated from that I lost more and of course once I got hydrated again I gained a couple of pounds back. Open DS with Dr. Anthone 7/6/01 down about 30 pounds > To All Post-Op's; > Have any of you had or heard of anyone else > reaching a plateau in weight loss after only 1 > month? > > Do you think this is a bad omen for making > the most of my 'window of opportunity'? > > I've had non-stop diarrhea and was taking > up to 17 Immodian a day. Guest guest
Hi Gobo! I had a plateau about week 5, it lasted a little over a week. This week (week 8) I have lost almost a pound a day. Dont let those plateaus bother you, they are the body's way of adjusting. Just " be the leaf in the stream " , trust this surgery and go where it takes you. I have been a member of a group called the Losers Club for for 30 years. We got the name when we were in college and no one had a date - we just hung around with each other. They are like my family - no actually, they were, and are, more than my family. So, whenever someone calls themselves or someone else a " loser " , my first feeling, (contrary to all normal opinions) , is loser = totally cool, warm supportive friends!!! Guest guest
I hit a plateau on day 28 for31/2 weeks. I am now down 100 pounds in 8 months. I have had many plateaus up to 5 weeks and then I lose every 4th day. So I am still content and have a window of 18 to 24 months. I feel I will lose and if it takes longer I will handle it. After all, I am eating everything I want. Good luck and don't worry. Ellen(Pam
