Hello All,

Christee Here.

As most of you probably know, I have has alot of issues with this Dr. Barmada

that calls himself a Ponseti Dr. Last thing he did was put a 1/2-3/4 " cut on the

back of her heel to do the Tenotomy. Well, here we go again...Her foot has

slipped in the cast...AGAIN! This time it has slipped forwards! Her cast is soft

on the foot as if he didnt put enough plaster there. And it has just gotten

worse! She has a large gap between her theigh and cast. I can stick my middle

finger all the way, as far as I can, without any struggle. It is thin on the

bottom of the foot, and way thick on the back where the theigh is, and on the

side of the foot where the little toe is. Maybe Kori will host the pics for me

so you can see them? KORI? Her heel has slipped fwd too about 1/4 " . I send

several pics to Kori, ans she says it is dorsoflexed at bout 0 to -5%. And the

flex outwards is at about 27% when it shoudl be 70%. WTF is wrong with this DR?

I need to get to Ponseti's NOW/ASAP, but dont have the $$$.

Any help here? Does anyone know what I can do? If there is any fundings? KORI,

can you tell them whats going on in your opinion, cause you understand better

than I?!

In my opinion after talking to Christee for a couple of hours and seeing

her pics... she's slipped in the cast (I saw the cast the day of the

tenotomy, and it looks like it's shrunk away from her groin - thus

slipped), the toes and top of the foot are coming out the front and the

heel is swimming inside. She's got to be pointing down in there now and

there's no way that cast is dorsiflexed more than maybe -5 degrees in the

first place. It's NOT abducted at all (ok, 27 degrees but that's not

abduction if you ask me...) and has slipped so far that the back crease of

her knee can be seen inside as well as the top of her knee and her knee is

not at 90 degrees anymore. The top of the cast is about an inch or so

above her knee, not at the groin and it's so wide that she's just floppy in

there.

I think the cast needs to come off. I told Christee that I would have

taken it off myself today. I worry about what kind of dorsiflexion may

have been obtained by the brutal tenotomy she had is lost now and the

tendon is healing tight again. I do not think she should put her into

shoes after this cast comes off, any kind of shoes. I think until she can

get to Iowa that massage and stretching may be the only thing to even worry

about. I wonder what that incision looks like. I may be wrong about

taking that cast off and going with nothing, but I wouldn't let that doc

cast again. Christee said that he said if this cast slipped... they were

going to GLUE it on! Can you imagine?

I think she'd be better off going into shriners here and having them

re-cast her. At LEAST they have some understanding of proper casting

techniques. So what do y'all think? I think she's going to send pictures

to the CFPics list when she gets subbed. But I have copies if anyone wants

them. Should she go without cast for a few weeks and just see Dr. P. or

should she be cast at Shriners to try to get that tendon to lengthen a

bit? I'm now scared to even think of sending her to Dr. Mosca and there's

the insurance that's causing a headache with that one anyway.

I couldn't be more freaked out about this treatment she's had. Never seen

anything like it yet. And I was so hopeful for some good news for Oregon

with this

doc.

Well ... I am sure that being in a slipped cast cant be good for her, but

taking the cast off without getting one right back on seems a bad idea with

a severed tendon.....

I think she should go to the local Shriner's and get recasted and then start

calling Angel flights and Dr. Ponseti's office to get in there asap. Or, she

could just take the cast off and enjoy her snuggly baby and try to just enjoy

her while making arrangements to see Dr. Ponseti. I had heard good about Dr.

Mosca. Maybe try to see him? If this dr. just consulted with Dr. Mosca, but is

as much of an idiot as he seems to be, he may not have correctly explained the

situation to Dr. Mosca and he may not know how to properly implement Dr. Mosca's

suggestions, as he obviously doesn't know how to implement. Dr. Ponseti's

techniques, which are relatively simple. I WOULD NOT take her back to that

dr!!!! Is the Shriner's there a Ponseti certified Shriner's? That poor baby....

Oh, I wonder how much plaster the dr. used on that cast? I ask because our dr.

always used 2 full rolls on dd's casts and on the last cast also added a layer

of fiberglass to the outside. Also, as he was applying the cast he would

swiftly, but gently and precisely mold the cast with his hands, smoothing as he

went. It was like watching an artist, the way he molded the cast. He did not

just wrap it. Her casts usually had a finger's worth of space at the top, but

were very snug at the foot and up to just past the knee.

the insurance that's causing a headache with that one anyway.

I couldn't be more freaked out about this treatment she's had. Never seen

anything like it yet. And I was so hopeful for some good news for Oregon

with this

doc.

It's been nearly 2w since the tenotomy. I think a cast is the best option

as well. But I wouldn't go back to the doc at Emanuel and let him glue one

on! That's for darn sure!

Do you want to see pics of this? I have a bunch she sent me. I should

just send them to the CFPics list. I'm hoping she's at Shriners this

morning. They suck there, but I do think they have a better handle on

casting than the doc at Emanuel.

The cast is huge... and awckward and bulky and thick at the thigh. Really

bad casting technique if you ask me. You'll see.

Dr. Mosca never consulted with Christee. It was his nurse. Which was

pointed out a couple of weeks ago thinks she knows something about

this. SHE is the one who told Christee to go ahead with the tenotomy. She

had NO RIGHT to do that at all.

OMG, I had NO idea it was his nurse!!! What does she (the nurse) think she is

doing?! Christee either needs to get in with Dr. Mosca (since he is closer and

therefore more convenient - and he is a Ponseti cert. dr., right?) or Ponseti.

That is awful what has currently happened. I'd love to see pics, if she doesn't

mind you sharing them. I don't know much, but I'm pretty sure our dr. follows

Ponseti to a " T " so I may be able to spot a wacko cast. Still interested

though... Thanks.

Still interested

though... Thanks.

I got ahold of Dr. Barmada's castinf tech. as he is not there. The tech told me

that her foot slipping fwd was Ok, and that her foor at 0 to -5% was alright

also!!! YES THAT IS WHAT HE SAID! I have totally lost confidence in anything

they do at this point. So of course, they do not want to change the cast. I DONT

KNOW WHAT TO DO! All the Dr.' s at Shriners and Dornbeckers are not in till next

week that can change her cast. And the lady I spoke to said I need to have the

application done and approved BEFORE she gets an appointment to be seen. She

said it would be like next week! There are no other Dr.s around here that does

this method! I have a call into Dr. Ponseti to see what he says, so I am waiting

to hear from him...

Try to relax until you hear from Ponseti, then do whatever he says to do. Good

luck...maybe if he feels it is urgent he will make a phone call to Shriners and

get you in sooner. Keep us updated.

Christee-

I am so angry for you. I wish I could come and just give you a big

hug. This is to me close to medical malpractice-to allow an infant

to suffer like this is ridiculous. ARGH! Please keep us

posted/updated. I would begin the application process for shriner's-

I believe it is even available on the web.

I trust the Dr P will help you handle this as I hear he has an

immeasurable about of compassion.

Good luck and keep us posted!
