Guest guest
My son was dx with austism (moderate to severe) when he was 28 months. He was non verbal at the time and a shock to us that he was so severe. I was only ever concerned with the fact that he had said only 3 words and then lost them. To this day I wish he is able talk normally (aren't we all!). He was dx with apraxia at 39 months. The same time he starting using words. He is just starting to approach his peers in an attempt to interact. My hubby took him to the park this weekend and he ran right up to these kids and wanted them to jump on the moving bridge with him but his " jump' came out too loud and it sounded completely different which scared them off. Why would he even want to try to interact again if he keeps getting reactions like this? We live in Orlando, FL. No self contained speech classes here. They just did away with them last year. I thought about Montessorri school last year but I hear negatives with them. Do they leave them alone too long to do their own thing? I dunno. If left alone or with a higher ratio of student to staff I am afraid he will " go into his own world " which is one of pure boredom. Ahhhhh. Thanks for the responses though. Guest guest
Persistence is key as is lots of interaction with other kids, even if negative. Hate to say it but it hurts you more than him and you must keep trying. Motessouri is school-specific. They are not all the same. If there are a lot of kids and they are encouraged to work on their own a bit but are guided enough with a good supervision ratio he may be ok as long as they do group activities and are willing to discuss and accommodate your individual kid. These schools are small. Adhereing to strict Montessouri with declining enrollment is not the way to survive. You might be surprised what you find there and elsewhere. Remember, everything is negotiable. Your child has issues but as Dr. Jepson says " What we have seen so far is autism untreated. " I think with therapy and the right intervention (which could mean anything including a good school fit) the possibilities are endless. > > My son was dx with austism (moderate to severe) when he was 28 months. Guest guest
It may be that your son's tonal processing is off. My son had similar experiences with his utterances. The listening program by www.advancedbrain.com has really helped him with moderating his tone and volume when speaking. We now have whispers... Also, As hard as it is to watch the attemps at making friends, it is very very important to continue to give your child opprotunities to have these experiences at a young age. I can't tell you how many 'support' groups i have joined to find new 'pools' of possible friends for my son. Last night at Kohl's, another kid tried to trip my son as he was pushing the cart, my son stopped and started to talk to him, I was amazed that he would do that. I was also very proud that he was 'standing' up for himself. he is now 4 yrs 8 mo old. Our music therapist suggested that we homeschool kindergarten then see where he is at to go mainstream 1st grade.... > > My son was dx with austism (moderate to severe) when he was 28 months. Guest guest
This may sound strange but we started TLP, my son pooped A LOT after. I really think the gunk stuck in his head moved on out. He has tubes in his ears so the flow was easier. After those poops the speech and interaction was amazing. > > > > My son was dx with austism (moderate to severe) when he was 28 > months. Guest guest
How long did it take to see results with TLP? We are on Day #3, and I am cautiously optimistic. I really NEED some behavior improvements and am hoping that better auditory processing will lead to this. in NJ > > > > > > My son was dx with austism (moderate to severe) when he was 28 > > months. Guest guest
I saw firm results within a couple of months and pretty normal auditory processing within about 4 months. My evaluator has just recently taken The Listening Program off of our program (after having used it for well over a year) but we had to 'switch' Mark's dominant ear (no easy task) so that is why we continued with it. We continue to listen to audio books and continue to work his ears/hearing daily. Janice [sPAM] [ ] Re: Struggling with ANSWERS ..to Kindergarden How long did it take to see results with TLP? Guest guest
things went really well for us up until week 3. that is when my son " melted down " things got better after that. We did the program for 27 weeks, my son had tubes at the time of the program. I credit the program with so many of his huge improvements (potty training)... WE just did IQ testing again and it is up 20 points from last november! Exciting yes.. however, it ruins my funding streams UGH To bad I can't test on a yearly basis and now I have to wait 3 yrs. We used the classic version > > > > > > > > My son was dx with austism (moderate to severe) when he was 28 > > > months. Guest guest
the poop was in the toilet more than it had been in the past (instead of his pants) while on it and since being off of it. Guest guest
My son, at age 2.5, had tubes when he started TLP. He was GFCFSF by then. He pooped more on when we started and it was obvious he was relieved...like a detox. I am still not sure what that even means but it was very strange. This was not a constipated child either??? > > the poop was in the toilet more than it had been in the past (instead > of his pants) while on it and since being off of it.
