I'm assuming the " eye crap " she's referring to is the antibiotic ointment that they use on newborns at birth. And yes-- it's definitely something to totally avoid altogether. It was started in order to help those babies whose mothers were infected with an STD, and for some reason " they " decided that it was best to just treat all the babies born. Really makes no sense at all now--if you're infected and have an STD, it's worth checking out, but otherwise, skip the eye gunk at birth Becky **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
Gee, let me guess, I bet it is preserved with mercury as the eye drops I gave the kids were. > > > > Thanks for posting this.. I'd have to go back and check with all of my information back when I did my research with this-- i'm not sure. I know that one of the larger results that came from using these on babies were clogged tear ducts and major eye infections. Becky **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
lol eye crap - yes, exactly thanks for decoding my poor choice of words. I'm really getting nervous about having baby in hospital because I just don't want to have to engage in the why's I am forbidding these common place infant maneauvres. I can hear/see it now... major old lady granola cruncher - room 5. eye roll, eye roll. Any advise on how to handle this birth - sounds like some of you have been there already. Another one of my " requests " is going to be that they do not take the baby out of my sight for any reason. Is this unreasonable? Assuming I have a healthy one - the whole process is done in a birthing room. With my son, they took him away to do the hep b, and the vit k, but the eye ointment was done immediately. I recall they took him away for other unknown reasons and brought him back. I really don't want my baby to ever be out of my sight. I can be big bad and bold when need be but, when faced with all that goes with birthing / a la pain / I can just see myself caving in so as to not have to deal with conflict. Anyone? Guest guest
1) Birth Plan 2) Be the crazy lady if needed 3) Have someone there to back you up. 4) Recognize what you have already done with your older child. Surely, hormones and all, you can't possibly care at this point what anyone thinks. If these are things you believe are necessary to keep your baby safe it is no one's business but yours. I commend you. I want a third baby. Hubby is still bending his mind around the deal with the other two so it is a nogo. Plus I am old, metallic, yeasty, gutimpaired and God knows what ekse. Still, you are brave and you can do this. > > > > > > In a message dated 1/17/2008 5:25:05 P.M. Guest guest
If y ou're nervous about a hospital birth-- the best thing you can do is to make a BIRTH PLAN for this birth. They are very simple and you can even google some sample birth plans and then cater it to what you are wanting. I've done this with the last 2 babies and it's worked QUITE well. They actually prefer knowing exactly what is to be done and what is NOT to be done-- and the hospital staff we've always dealt with has LIKED the fact that it's all right there in front of them for no questions to wonder. One biggie though-- is present your OB/GYN with the birth plan BEFORE the actual birth-- discuss all of it with him in detail (not the why's-- that's not important and isn't any of his business) and tell him that this is your primary plan for birth-- and also recognize that if an emergency pops up-- your husband will be the one to decide what to do on the OB's recommendations. etc DON'T give the details of WHY on the birth plan-- just be simple and keep it easy to read bek **************Start the year off right.
