This is our first week of using soy-free Vit E (Dr. Ron's Unique E)

and it is not lasting as long as the only other Vit E that we've

used in the past (a combo of Vitamin World High Gamma Tocopherol and

Soloray Vit E, both soy-based). He's been on it since Monday. On

the soy-based Vit E, I would get 5 good hours before his major

seeking behaviors would creep back in. On this no-soy version - we

are only getting about 4 hours and at that 4 hour mark - look out,

he becomes Mr. Hyde. An hour after his next dose, sweet little guy

again. The no-soy is working, but not the same.

I'm hoping after this trial of total elimination of soy for a few

weeks we can see if he can tolerate the soy oil despite testing

positive for soy allergy on skin-prick test and go back to the soy-

based version (if for no other reason the cost).

Liz,

I am fanitical about good quality Vitamin E. I use Perfect E by Len & Joe.

Vitamin E - Perfect E 400 iu

Comprised of:

Mixed Tocopherols 536mg

d-gamma tocopherol 400 mg

d-delta tocopherol 91 mg

d-beta tocopherol 45 mg

Tocotrienols (frompalm) 40 mg

Gamma tocotrientol 21 mg

Delta tocotrienol 6mg

Alpha Tocotrienol 12 mg

Beta tocotrienol 1mg

I give 800 iu daily. Although I cannot speak to why E works so well and

which ones work and why, but I can encourage you to check out

www.Lenandjoe.com. They are Homeopathic MDs who understand both nutrition

and the medical side. Bridging eastern and western medicience together. They

have radio shows nationally that you can call into for free ( you will be

live on air ) and ask this question. Or you can have a private appt. They

really know their stuff on developmental delays such as apraxia and have

helped tremendously. You may also want to go back and see if any of their

past shows you can listen to.

Just a thought.

I have been using a CLO/vitamin E regimen. It stabilized things and my

observations show me it may be helping him absorb Bs better because he

is actually confident and seeking out and trying to talk to kids he used

to shy away from. It is a joy to watch. The E I use is soy based but I

have a no soy E (Twin Labs) that I have used in the past. Today I used

it with 1 EFA and got a ridiculous amount of clearer speech. The speech

therapist was nuts over his session today so it was obvious. I never got

that with Pro EFA and the soy E but I did get it with this E before and

only now see that. Obviously I'll test this E and I am getting convinced

that E absorption or assistance or something to do with E is part of our

deal. I suspected it all along because even on the fluoridated multi he

did well and when he was on that he was E deficient in diet. Anyway, I

recall a discussion of who processes what Es. Can anyone tell me why one

would work over the other besides a soy allergy which I did not think we

had?

I always said I'd shout for my kids so national radio is fine. The

price is right!

  • 3 weeks later...

Colleen,

When you say Charlie's speech took off, was he not even trying to

talk before this? In reviewing old posts I am trying to be sure I

have in diet what needs. Since he was a big milk guy he got

choline and plenty of it. He was always trying to talk but there were

issues from inability to make sounds and slurring which I believe was

malabsorption so I am not ready to add choline or anything else just

yet until we get more testing in case it is still in him and simply a

matter of getting it where it needs to go. But I am curious what

Charlie was like before all of this...did he try to talk? What were

his issues before getting diagnosed and beginning this journey?

Thanks!

Liz,

I am going to email you in response to this off line with my journal notes

that I keep. That will tell you what I have done. Although I have not

updated it from The Second DAN! visit. I still need to do this.
