Guest guest
Hello. I am a first time poster. My daughter is twenty six months old and was diagnosed with apraxia by her SLP. She can say the following words: " Hi " and " bye " (Both sound like " I " ), " no " , " yeah " (sounds like " da " ), " ut-oh " , " Wow " , " all done " (Sounds like " ah on " ), and " Please " sounds like " eese " . That's all the words she can say regularly. We started speech therapy 2 months ago and get 2 half hour sessions per week through our insurance. We have not made much progress since starting speech, but her SLP says that with apraxia the pace of improvement can be like " watching grass grow. " After reading these message boards, I have started her on fish oil for the first time only 4 days ago. I have never been a believer in alternative remedies, but so far i have been amazed. Several hours after her first dose, she was able to say " Thank you. " (Sounds like " than choo " ) after I asked her to say it. She has said it two or three times since. The night after her second dose, she was able to say " Night night. " (Sounds like " Ni Ni " ). Yesterday was her third dose, and this morning, she said " blankie " (Sounds like " Lankie " .) She has 3 blankies she carries with her all the time. She even tried to count them this morning. " Un " , " OO " , " EEE. " I am amazed and excited by all she has accomplished in just 4 days since being on fish oil as opposed to her two months of speech therapy! I have been giving her the fish oil from GNC. One pill one time a day. Is this right? or should I increase to twice a day? She understands everything I say to her and is a very affectionate child. She attempts to communicate by pointing and will also bring me to the object she wants. But her behavior is a problem. She screams. She has tantrums because she can't express herself. She screams. We can't take her to a restaurant right now. It's hard. She is so frustrated. I will do anything it takes to help her get through this. Thanks for reading. We have an evaluation with the Early Steps program here in Florida on January 16th. Maybe they will be able to get us more speech therapy sessions per week.
