Guest guest
I was told by my nutritionist to give Charlie (30lbs) 300 mg of magnesium daily. I know Mark is much older and weighs considerably more, I am sure. But there is a good guage. Thanks, Colleen Re: [ ] Re: Just a 'little' infraction I was actually looking for Liver Life at the health food store this weekend. I figure if my son is having a problem detoxing then his liver may need some extra protection. They didn't have it so I am going to get more info on it online. He is getting another epsom salt bath tonight. I am so grateful that my kids love baths--cause they certainly love getting dirty! I am going to keep track of this and see if we keep having great days after the baths. I just wonder if it will have the same effect since the last one was in the morning and this one will be at night. Thanks again on sharing some great advice! --------- [ ] Just a 'little' infraction > > So.... > > My boy has been doing lovely and his speech has really been coming a long. > The tongue exercises are working and he is getting more and more NT each > day. Guest guest
Solgar makes a very easily digestible chelated magnesium that is quality that can be dosed for children. There is a pharmacy in Florida that sells it on behalf of the CF community (can be given to anyone, but would be ideal for our kiddos because this type takes weak digestive systems into consideration. I think its called the CF services pharmacy.....important there is more than one~ this one is in Florida) They make zero profit on it and sell a huge bottle for $15.00. Like fish oils, there is a big difference in quality of magnesium. (as in.........what you see in the drug store and Walmart.......no no no) Magnesium is very very important, too. I am surprised to finally see some commentary on it. Not just GI issues, but it calms the central nervous system as well. Read this for some interesting information froma popular nutritionist. http://www.krispin.com/magnes.html My son's allergist wanted him a on a good magnesium supplement because it helps relax airways and calm inflammation. If I don't take magnesium when on an antibiotic, the antibiotics leech magnesium from my body. I get insomnia and heart arythmia, so it has been wonderful for me. Here's a thought to consider. The RDA of magnesium in the USA is much lower than it is in Canada. Our bodies need magnesium to process calcium and potassium. If we do not bring magnesium into the equation along with our calcium, than calcium becomes harder to digest. It calcifies in the arteries, increasing heart issues. It leaches magnesium from our bodies (which 99% of magnesium is stored in our bones and tissues and are not measurable by a blood serum test), increasing risk for osteoporosis. In the US, we have big campaigns to doctors to even ADD more calcium to prevent osteoporosis, yet no magnesium added. So our meds make the condition worse. In Canada, with their higher RDA of magnesium....their incident of heart problems and osteoporosis are significantly lower than in the US. In the US, cardiac drugs are big business. Interesting to me. Hope that helps, __________________________________________________

Guest guest
, this was extremely helpful. Magnesium is a big issue for my daughter. It is clear I can't do this on my own. She needs a nutritionis. > > Solgar makes a very easily digestible chelated magnesium that is quality that can be dosed for children. Guest guest
Liz, I can tell you that the message board I am a member of also is a group titled CF Nutrition. There are parents dosing it to their infants with their doc's blessing. Many have seen respiratory and GI improvement as a result. However, there is a process of building (like fish oils) that you have to be very very careful. If you give too much, you create diarrhea. So, with my son, we started at an 1/8 dose, then 1/4, then 1/2, etc. I do think you should check mg recommendations for a child before starting. I am not sure if that is on the weblink I posted, but I'll check tonight. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Thanks ! I am always conservative like that with doseage...they are my babies you know. Sad to say but I'd love seeing diarrhea. She is on a probiotic and still does not poop right, even with epsom salt baths. However, her diet is low in magnesium and I believe it has been further depleted by too much calcium. I think it is clear we need this but I will go slow. I bought a kirkman childrens powder for her and I will be getting the Solray for me. Can't thank you enough. Guest guest
, What would be the dosing for an older child (90 lbs) who is almost 13 of magnesium? I am just doing the basic right now but I suspect that Mark needs more.....
