Guest guest
I was wondering if anyone has a GREAT whole house water filter that they can recommend? We've been wanting to get one for a long time now-- but I am not sure where to begin. I figure here might be the best place to start since many here will have one??? So-- I'd like some thoughts on what product to get. I don't need one that's " ok " , but it would received HEAVY usage since we have 9 (almost 10) people in our home, so it HAS to be a high quality " forever " type thanks! becky **************Biggest Grammy Award surprises of all time on AOL Music. Guest guest
Depends on what you want to do. For cooking and drinking you want to get the most out, including my personal nemesis, fluoride. Fluoride traps lead (see my other post with the abstract). Lead steals speech among other things. In NJ there is so much to get out of water...no offense but particularly where you live. The Passaic River is a nightmare. So, to get fluoride and the rest out there are two ways. 1) Distiller. The only NSF certified distiller you can get to do this is $2500 and is as big as a dishwasher. The company does not retail in NJ and woould not respond to my requests for a guarantee that if I tested it through Drs Data and it came back dirty that they would replace my $. They also never explained to me how they would get it to me, what the logistics and cost would be. 2) Reverse Osmosis: gets all but a small percentage out. These systems are not all the same. You want one that gets a lot of stuff out, like chlorine for example. The best r/o system I found is the one I bought. You can buy it online at costco and they deliver it to your door. It is not available at the store. http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx? Prodid=10034720 & search=reverse%20osmosis & Mo=2 & cm_re=1_en-_- Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search & lang=en- US & Nr=P_CatalogName:BC & Sp=S & N=5000043 & whse=BC & Dx=mode+matchallpartial & Ntk=Text_Search & Dr=P_CatalogName:BC & Ne=4000000 & D=reverse% 20osmosis & Ntt=reverse% 20osmosis & No=2 & Ntx=mode+matchallpartial & Nty=1 & topnav= & s=1 Now, for bath water you can't get the fluoride out but you can get lead and other nasties out. Because of the size of your family I think you are going to have to call GE directly and see what the largest Whole House filter they have is. With The RO system just be sure whoever installs it funnels the wastewater out of your house and does not put it back into your general water system. If so you are literally showering in concentrated waste water. I know I am pretty hard core about this stuff but it is so important and it shocks me that people would go to the extreme end of supplementation, medication, chelation, etc. and then recycle a problem like this. By doing this you help your family and your affected child. It was the one thing we did that caused very little fuss from hubby. Due to the size of your family be forewarned that you will definitely be changing filters more often than the mfr says. Also, realize that initially you will change them earlier as the first batch of bad stuff to come out is heavy. > > I was wondering if anyone has a GREAT whole house water filter that they can > recommend? > We've been wanting to get one for a long time now-- but I am not sure where > to begin. > > I figure here might be the best place to start since many here will have > one??? > > So-- I'd like some thoughts on what product to get. Guest guest
Hi Liz, I would like to get water filters for our home. Currently I'm buying reverse osmosis water from Whole Foods each week for our drinking water. But I often cook with the regular tap water. Also, I'm not doing anything about bath and shower water, which I'd like to address now as well. I was not able to get to the link you forwarded about the Costco filter. Could you tell me the name of the Costco filter? Does that just got on your kitchen sink then? I'm not sure how this all works. Then your ice cubes and fridge water are still bad, right? Do you then bring water from that filter upstairs for teeth brushing? Does the whole house filter get out must everything but fluoride then? Could you tell me the name of the whole house filter you recommend as well? Thanks for your help with this - I really appreciate it. I'm a little confused on the water filter stuff. Thanks, Becky
