Does any one know if I could add the ProEFA to his food. I would prick open the capsules, add it to his food then it would be refrigerated and then used the next day. about a 12-16 ounce jar gets warmed in the microwave for a minute to take the chill out before I add it to his feeding pump. > > Does any one know if this would work okay or would it affect the ProEFA? > > and the amazing ZooCrew > >
Guest guest
Hi , I agree with Loreta and would add the ProEFA 'after' you warm it up in the fridge. It's not good to cook with EFAs, it's better to add them to the warm food after. For microwaves, even though I don't know for sure what they would do to EFAs, why take a chance that may make them less effective in some way? Not many in this group have children that need to be tube fed -but one child who 'used' to be very severe that responded amazing to the ProEFA in his feeding tube and is still on it today and doing better than anyone ever dreamed, also happens to be a patient of Tanner's SLP Dr. Renai Jonas in Boca. Below is an archive on this one child who we have followed for years -and if you want to speak to Dr. Renai Jonas about him, her number is 561-670-4562 (EST) She can see if it's OK to put you in touch with the father, . ~~~~~~~~~~start of archive Re: Question regarding proefa and g_tubes......HELP!!!!!!!! Hi , As said and I agree, it's best to check with the child's doctors first. There are doctors that are knowledgeable about using " oil therapy " with feeding tubes (hey didn't they even show this in Lorenzo's Oil?) and sometimes you may have to seek help outside of your area. Unfortunately, not all the people that have children on ProEFA that do well stay active in the group even if they are still members of the grouplist. Most people learn what they need to help their child from this group and elsewhere and then move on, only popping in here and there. Some stick around to help others even once their child is doing well (we all appreciate it!)and help keep this a group so that the outside world will look at communication impairments in children more seriously than they do now. I believe most of the question emails about tube feeding and using ProEFA (or other Omega 3/6 oils like it) were asked and answered in private -which is why I'd rather people ask questions on the list -so we can archive the messages to help people in the future. This is all I found on this, however it shows that it has come up at least two times before in the group. I do remember that the first time added the entire ProEFA capsule into the feeding tube his child vomited it right up -(this was after adding the ProEFA was OK'd of course by all the doctors) After that took the advice he read on this list of using " one drop at a time " and it immediately worked in more ways than one. He gradually increased the dosage and I believe he even went up to two capsules a day. Maybe the best way to find out is to contact 's sister Robin as I suggest below? is very friendly, and he's an attorney so very logical -and I'm sure he would love to help others that were in his situation! From archived message # 9371 " I don't know how many (lurking) parents there are on our list who have children on feeding tubes -however I happen to know one. Robin Susser runs the website http://www.speechpathologist.org and the child I know is her nephew -her brother's son, because Robin referred him to our website and he contacted me. I questioned Dr. Agin and others at that time and Robin's brother did OK this with his son's doctor too. I believe the child was just about a year old with severe cerebral palsy from birth trauma that cut off oxygen to his brain, he was started on ProEFA through his feeding tube at first just one or two drops a day -and then increased to one or two capsules a day. He's now been on ProEFA since the summer and I hear he's doing really well on it -however again it's the only child I personally know of like this. ? If you see this perhaps you would want to answer? " From archived message # 10357 " About CP, Robin Susser CCC/SLP who runs the website http://www.speechpathologist.org -her nephew, due to oxygen loss during birth, has severe CP. From the last I've spoken to Robin and her brother -this child has done quite well on the ProEFA, and has been on it since 12 months through his feeding tube. Her brother is a member of our group -but he may not check all the emails to see your question (maybe he'll see this and answer?) If not -email Robin -she's wonderful, and could help answer questions. " =====
Guest guest
Hey Guys, Thanks 4 the suggestions. Jon Jon has used " oil " several different times through out his life, so putting it through the tube (in his tummy) is not the issue. I was just trying to make it as convenient as possible. I have used flax seed oil for the longest time. I always mixed it the night before into his total feed and then separated the feeds out to three feeds, refrigerated and warmed the next day and administered through his feeding pump. I was always doing it for calories and that was it. But I do know that when I did not give it for a few days his speech declined. I can only assume with using the ProEFA/EPA and eventually the vitamin E we will see a bigger surge. Jon Jon is verbal per say - but basically echolaic....repeats everything - and mostly out of context. My question was basically trying to make it as convenient as possible. I may just dose him all at one time in the AM or PM to make it more convenient. Thanks - you all have been so helpful, and the Amazing ZooCrew [ ] Re: proefa question > Hi , > > I agree with Loreta and would add the ProEFA 'after' you warm it up > in the fridge. Guest guest
Hi- I'm trying to locate this product for my 3-year old daughter with DVD. Is this available in liquid form? Or simply the geltab/capsule? Thanks.
Guest guest
I get mine from Nordic Naturals. I use a pin and squeeze the liquid into his fruit. You can also get it through the website speechville.com. It will direct you to the right one to order. fenway_geek <fenway_geek@...> wrote: Hi- I'm trying to locate this product for my 3-year old daughter with DVD. Is this available in liquid form? Guest guest
I have been poking a hole in it and mixing it with a little OJ and giving it to my daughter in a syringe like medicine.. loves taking medicine so it's not a big deal for her... Cristal gtzellner@... [ ] ProEFA question I want to try ProEFA with my 2 1/2 year old. He cant swallow the capsul, so how should I give it to him? Can you just pop the capsul and add it to something like yogurt? Guest guest
I puncture the capsule and squeeze it into a syringe and give it to our son that way. Initially I gave it to him in food (ie. yogurt, applesause, etc.) but he's a very picky eater and he stopped eating those foods when I did that. It's easier for me to ensure he get it (and still eats) when I use an oral syringe. Char > > I want to try ProEFA with my 2 1/2 year old. He cant swallow the > capsul, so how should I give it to him?
