Guest guest
How soon can I start flossing? I'm 3.5 weeks post-op and have bands that I can remove to brush my teeth. I have been cleared to use my waterpik on the lowest setting, but nothing was said (and I didn't bother to ask) about flossing. Thanks, Maddie

Guest guest
I'd ask your ortho. At 3 weeks, I was given the ok to start using a toothbrush (at 4 weeks I started using my Oral B 3-d brush) and toothpaste, but I couldn't open wide enough to floss all my teeth. To compensate, I brushed really well and rinsed with Listerine to kill the germs caused by whatever couldn't be dislodged. I think I read in a recent Cooking Light (December '04 issue?) magazine that while most people don't floss as they should, studies showed that rinsing with Listerine twice a day was about as effective as flossing. Studies weren't conducted on other mouthwashes. > > How soon can I start flossing? I'm 3.5 weeks post-op and have bands that I can remove to > brush my teeth.
