Guest guest
I recently screened a 10 year old boy due to parental concerns regarding hypotonia, oral motor delays, facial grimacing and weak verbal organization. He definitely presents with low tone in his trunk and oral muscles. Very flaccid tongue! He has difficulty motor planning oral movements when asked to imitate purse, retract and open his mouth. In addition, when he is doing this he then cannot produce voice-on-set. Sometimes prior to speaking, he opens and closes his mouth with out voice...some groping and then speaks. There are some secondary behaviors that seem to parallel a dysfluency but I'm just not clear if this is an issue of dysfluency or motor planning. Any thoughts? He also has difficulty organizing his thoughts and has quite a delay. Word finding problems, fine and gross motor issues are evident. By the way, this is a " typical " mainstream student within the high average intelligence. He has never received speech services! Any opinions are welcome!
