Why does Vitamin E work?

I am interested in why the vitamin E is so helpful to my son. I was

reading up on it and found the following:

" Free radicals are formed primarily in the body during normal

metabolism and also upon exposure to environmental factors such as

cigarette smoke or pollutants. Fats, which are an integral part of

all cell membranes, are vulnerable to destruction through oxidation

by free radicals. The fat-soluble vitamin, alpha-tocopherol, is

uniquely suited to intercepting free radicals and preventing a chain

reaction of lipid destruction. Aside from maintaining the integrity

of cell membranes throughout the body, alpha-tocopherol also protects

the fats in low density lipoproteins (LDLs) from oxidation.

Lipoproteins are particles composed of lipids and proteins, which are

able to transport fats through the blood stream. When a molecule of

alpha-tocopherol neutralizes a free radical, it is altered in such a

way that its antioxidant capacity is lost. However, other

antioxidants, such as vitamin C, are capable of regenerating the

antioxidant capacity of alpha-tocopherol. "

I think this is interesting. I have had a toxic elements hair test

done for my son, which revealed exceptionally high levels of

aluminum, high tin and antimony, and others. I wonder if these

metals could be acting as the " free radicals " and the e is helping to

neutralize them? This would mean that he needs a greater amount of E

to function.

One of 's thoughts about why E works is that there are " other

mechanims that makes our kids have a need for higher vit E

levels for normal function. If that's the case, then " normal levels "

for apraxia have not been established. " I think she is right on

track here.

The Vitamin E research also mentions Vitamin C having the ability to

regenerate the antioxidant capacity of alpha-tocopherol after it is

neutralized. Could C be beneficial to mix with the E?
