Guest guest
Hi Mindy, I had upper/lower on June 2nd. I was not wired . . . only banded for about 3 weeks. The protein powder I used and still using is GNC Whey Protein Powder/Vanilla Flavor. I used a heaping scoop of it in my breakfast every morning which consisted of: no more than 12 oz of milk 1 pack of chocolate flavored Carnation Instant Breakfast 1 scoop of the protein powder 1 banana I put it all in a 16 oz measuring cup and blended it with my handheld blender until smooth. Sometimes I would add 1 or 2 tablespoons of peanut butter. Also, if I ran out of the chocolate flavored CIB and used the vanilla flavored CIB, I would add 3-4 tablespoons of Ovaltine to the brew. What can I say . . . I like chocolate! Good luck and best wishes to you! With regards, Dale

Guest guest
I was looking at certain protein powders and don't know what I should get, if any at all. My doctor said I would be on a soft food diet, said I will probably be on liquids for a couple of days. But I think I should get something for the Carn. instant breakfasts that I will probably have once a day. What did everyone else use? I'm just going to be banded not wired. Also, has anyone used the Carb Countdown milk? I looked at the protein count and it has 12grams for 1 cup. I'm not a low-carb freak and all they have is 2%, no whole. Thanks! Guest guest
I used a pre-mixed protein shake that is also supposed to be low in carbs. I am not much of a low carb person but my orthodontist, a very generous person, gave me a whole box. It is distributed by EAS and it is called Myoplex Carb Sense. I usually stick it in the blender with a banana or two and some strawberries. Luke > I was looking at certain protein powders and don't know what I should get, if > any at all. Guest guest
Hi, Mindy-- I have been using the GNC soy protein, and it has 15g of protein in a scoop. I add it to all of the smoothies and shakes I make in the blender. The dietician at the hospital said I should try to get 55g of protein each day. I try! I also drink Boost High Protein and Carnation Instant Breakfast. The variety is nice. Then again, tonight I drank a chili shake... (chili and sour cream...mmmm) My husband said, " Look! A MEAT SHAKE! " I had to hold my face because I was laughing so hard.

Guest guest
I am trying the ZONE Protein Powder. It's made of SOY and is tasteless. > I was looking at certain protein powders and don't know what I should get, if > any at all. Guest guest
1. protien powder does NOT build muscle, it only aids in the building of muscle.. you need to tear the muscle and it will rebuild bigger..in order to do this you'll need to lift weights or exert your muscle... so, how can one do this while recovering from surgery???? it's best to have a balanced diet ... to avoid losing weight you need to ensure you have the right amount of calories... and it is especially important to ensure you're loaded with carbs .... 2. why not take Soy milk fortifed with calcium? there is a lot of protien in Soy ... Guest guest
Hi Mindy, I use Deluxe Whey Protein powder-teh French Vanilla flavour-it's not chalky like a lot and the tase is subtle-I have mixed it into smoothies, oatmeal, cream of wheat and milk shakes and it's fine in all of them. My trainer at the gym suggested this brand as one of teh better ones. Re using protein powder, my Oral Surgeon re-inforced to me the importance protein, vitamin c and calcium-he said the protein powder and daily vit c is a great idea post op.as it will asssit in the healing process and help get those nutrients! I am 9 days post-op as of today and things are looking great! Connie > > > I was looking at certain protein powders and don't know what > I > > should get, if > > > any at all. Guest guest
Thanks for everyone's responses. I looked at GNC and they showed me their stuff but the bottle was huge! I'm not paying $30 for something I won't finish! By the way, I want the powder for healing reasons not for muscle mass but thanks for the tip! Less than 4 days to go! Mindy PS. I showed a lot of my co-workers what is being done (the generic skull pics with the screws) and everyone is more worried than me! I owe my calmness to everyone here! Thanks! Guest guest
Weird--The one I bought was twenty bucks, I think, and I'm almost done with it. (I put it in every shake or smoothie I make.) Too bad they didn't have a smaller size... I bet you can find a smaller container somewhere else. Good luck, and keep up the optimism! That's going to do you a whole lot of good during surgery and afterwards. Rock on!! > Thanks for everyone's responses. I looked at GNC and they > showed me their stuff but the bottle was huge!
