Guest guest
This is so interesting to me, becuase when I was in the hospital I had one night, where I just could not lay still. It that kind of what you are taking about and yes I would call it twitching. I was on a demerol pump and I could just use what I wanted. I had no idea that maybe the demerol was causing it and I know my nurse did not either. It was really not a pleasent night. If I have to go in again I will sure remember this and use as little as possible or ask to be swithched to something else, but the morphine did not seem to help me. I think it was on this group that I was reading about Dilaudid for pain. What is that and how do you take it? Is is something a person could have in the hospital on a pump or in a shot? Boy! I appreciate all I learn from this group. Myrna -- Morphine vs Demerol Just wanted to pur in my two cents worth on this. I used Demerol for most of the fifteen years worth of hospitalizations with little trouble other than a few nasty headaches. But about two years ago I had to have higher doses of the Demerol to control my pain, and after a couple of days I began to have muscle twithces, an early sign of toxicity. Luckily I have never had a seizure. But I now ask for morphine instead. As a nurse I saw a couple of seizures caused by Demerol, scary. If any of you begin to notice twitches or little ticks while on Demerol, report it to your nurse or doctor immediately. Remember I am not a doctor, this is only my opinion Hugs, Keri

By IV, the dilaudid is a powerful pain reliever. I took it in pill form last year, and did not notice that it was this effective. They are giving me 4 mg per hour in the drip, and I can give myself an additional bolus every 8 minutes as needed. Works pretty well, pain has decreased considerably.
