Laurie,

appropriatness for using the ER for pain relief?

He said if I could not get pain relief with pain medications, then I could

call him (if during business hours) and he would direct admit me for pain

control. So I ask about after hours and he said then you would need to go to

ER and tell them you have chronic pancreatitis and need something for the

pain. I said what if my amalyse and lipase are not elevated? He said then

you might have a problem, but we didn't get into it further at this visit.

But I have decided that I will ask him for a letter (as some others on the

list use) to take to ER explaining that I have chronic pancreatitis and may

need something stronger than my pain meds to get me through a flare up. So

far, I have not had to ever go to ER - except when first diagnosed over a

year ago.

Good luck to you!

Debbie
