To Kaye ; Demerol toxicity

Thanks for the information about Demerol and it's potential

toxicity. I am also allergic to Morphine and all the opoid

derivatives: codeine, dilaudid, oxycodone, hydrocodone, ect

ect..Demerol has been the only pain med that has worked that I can

tolerate. I am to be admitted to MUSC on Monday for surgery and

will more then likely be placed on a Demeral PCA, I will keep in

mind very closely the horrible experience you had with the pump.

Also to add, whomever programmed that pump; the RN, or the MD who

wrote the orders, or both, for not recognizing that extrememly high

dose should be severely reprimanded. I am a RN and I would have

never programmed such a dose into a PCA pump. I would not risks

loosing my license for an idiot MD. I hope you are doing much

better and have appropriate control of your pain.
