Guest guest
Hi Debbie: I'm not sure what I said to scare you about the pain meds...maybe it was before I went to see my new pain specialist, who turns out to be WONDERFUL. He first saw me, a whole 24 hours without any medication. When he saw me last night, he said it was night/day. He has put me on 80 mgs. Oxycontin twice a day and 10 mgs. oxycodone for breakthrough. He has also put me back on Neurontin and a new one Baclofen. I saw him last night and this looks like the plan for a while. He said he might need to increase as I get tolerant. I can't believe I stayed with the other guy for two years. This has made his operation look like amateur hour. I'm still actually having quite abit of pain, even with all these meds, but it's only been a month since they took the stent out and my pancreas always takes quite a while to settle down, once it gets riled up! I still work every day and am very fortunate to have a job with a very understanding boss. I told her I was concerned about missing time when I had the ERCP and for doctor's appointments. To quote, " I want you to take care of yourself, I know how difficult it can be to have a chronic condition. " I even told her I could only see a therapist during working hours, and she feels the mental aspect is as important as the physical. I've been here around 7 1/2 years, so luckily had some time behind me. I wonder how sick should you let yourself get before you consider the pancreatectomy w/Islet Transplant? I know you need to do it before you become diabetic, but I guess I wonder if I'm sick enough? Hope you are having a good day!
