What if I can't get PROMPT?

The dev ped diagnosed my son with apraxia/dyspraxia. He is very young

(14mo old)and am getting quite a bit of slack regarding this dx.

However, I am a huge proponent of early identification. So, with it in

mind that it is a working diagnosis, we are treating it as IF it is

apraxia/dypraxia. He has made the recommendations that we get speech

2x/week by a PROMPT certified SLP. Problem is, I have called

everywhere and even emailed the prompt institute and there is no one

within 1-2hr drive that is PROMPT certified. What do I do now? Is

there another type of speech therapy that is effective for this dx?

There is a PROMPT cert school aged SLP working in the schools but she

doesn't do private. Thanks. Kim

Hi - Prompt is nice, but not the only way to go by any means. Right

now, I would say that a great, understanding and knowledgeable SLP is

the right way to go. My son " graduated " from therapy in 3 years - 3

years ago - and had NO prompt. He went in as a 2 year old with no

words - none - and left as a child you regularly will to be quiet. I

have to remind myself of that sometimes...
