Guest guest
Debbie, I have been under the care of a pain management doc since Nov. At that time, the only diagnosis I had was recurrent acute pancreatitis and chronic abdominal pain. I was initially given Lortab 10 up to three times a day as needed. Then when I was diagnosed with liver disease in January, my pain med was changed to oxycodone 5 mg up to 3 times a day as needed. When I began having increased pain in April, my pain med was upped to oxycodone 5 mg up to 4 times a day. When I had another acute attack that landed me in the hospital the end of May, my internal med doc contacted the pain doc and told him that I needed longer acting pain med, so they added MS Contin 30 mg twice a day and oxycodone 5 mg up to 4 times a day as needed for breakthrough pain. At that time, I still didn't have a diagnosis of CP, but I was admitted to the hospital again (after only 36 hours home) and a new GI was called in and I was officially diagnosed with CP on June 4th or 5th. Anyway, in answer to your question, I think a pain doc will treat your pain without an official diagnosis. W
