Levsin is an antispasmodic I use to help keep the spasms away or

stop one once it comes.

Laurie,

I had to reply to say that I too suffer with SOD and I have never had a

problem with darvocet giving me spasms. I also take perkocet (which

wires me) and not has never given me a spasm either. I have heard that

morphine can set off SOD but demerol does nothing to touch my pain from

the CP when in the hospital. Isn't is funny that we suffer from the

same things and take some of the same medications but they affect us

both so differently. Anyway, glad that your doing well.

I was givin Levsin for my SOD. It doesn't do a thing for me. Doesn't

touch the pain or the spasms.

We are all different. I am glad it workes for you.

Hi Laurie - I was taking nitroglycerin tabs under the tongue since they relax

the smooth muscles and it worked really well. My doctor just gave me some other

stuff that is also working very well and he thinks it's better - I'll quote the

prescription bottle to you - " Diltiazem HCL 180mg CAP SA (CD) " and I'm supposed

to take one daily. He also gave me the same thing in a pill I put under my

tongue as soon as I start to spasm and it works immediately. The first one is a

long acting one and then it also comes in the sublingual short-acting - so I

have both to cover me. Hope that helps! anita

For what it is worth I have tried, Levbid, Levsin, Bentyl, and Vicoden for my

SOD along with about 10 other medications including calcium channel blockers and

everything else but the kitchen sink. Then my GI doc put me on Clidinium ,it is

an anticholinergic just like the Levsin. But the Clidinium has Librax and

Quarzam. The Quarzam soothes the lining of the spincter and acts as an

antispasmotic. The Librax part use to be a drug many moons ago used for hives,

nerves and a rash. Now the drug is combined to form Clidinium. That has been the

only thing that has provided me with any relief with my SOD, besides

accupuncture. I have to take the Clidinium every 6 hours and even set my alarm

to wake up on the middle of the night to take it. Then if i have a bad spasm I

take levsin under the tongue. One every 5 minutes for up to three pills. if no

relief then it is off to the ER. But the clidinium has been a great help for me.
