Guest guest
Suzanne, It is such a miracle to have watched the change happen in Joey.....well, actually your whole family. After all, Pancreatitis is a family disease. What amazes me is the success of his pain relief. Usually, when there has been such a history of such severe pain, a Total Pancreatectomy does not yield complete success due to the effect to the integrating spinal nerves. I would love to see his picture, he probably doesn't look a thing like he did a year ago. Thanks for staying in touch. Karyn E. , RN Exec. Guest guest
Hi Karyn Thank you very much for your kind words. We really consider Joeys' surgery a miracle. Not only is he free from pain, but his blood sugars continue to be perfect. As far as him looking different - he has gained about 40 lbs. since last summer and has grown more than 3 " . We say we can see him growing right before our eyes. The only problem we have right now is that he developed alopecia right after his surgery. It started out as small patches and all of a sudden it all fell out. He has no hair at all on his head or body. Even his eyelashes have fallen out. We are hoping that eventually it will grow back. But, Joey could care less. I think he is so thrilled to actually feel good that there isn't much that could bother him. He is finishing his first full year of school (7th grade) and he will probably make the honor roll this marking period! We just couldn't be happier! I wish that everyone in this group could have the same outcome for their disease. Suzanne
