Guest guest
Hi , there is indeed such a thing as a vaccine for PA. It's called Aerugen from the swiss company Berna Biotech (if you google for these keywords you'll find some info). The drug is still tested in a Phase 3 study in Italy, France, Switzerland and Germany. BUT ... and this is really strange, while we are eagerly waiting for results from the study patients in Spain already can get the vaccination and I heard from our clinic that they do the vaccination on request too. Plus there was an article in the German CF magazine where parents and patients were begged not to ask for the vaccine outside of the study, because that could put the whole study at risk. I have no idea why it is possible to obtain a drug that is still in the trials. So I feel very unsure at the moment. On the one hand I am worried to ask for a drug that hasn't been fully approved yet. On the other hand the idea of a vaccination against PA sounds fascinating, especially since Fiona has gone without PA for six years now and when she enters school in 5 months we will have to let loose a bit. The costs of the vaccine are 10,000 ?, that's around 11,000 US-$. I am afraid we have to pay it out of the pocket as long as it's not approved. Peace Torsten, dad of Fiona 6wcf e-mail: torstenkrafft@... What he is trying to find out is about a vaccine for PA. Well, is there such thing or is it the egg garggle that Torsten had mentioned before? Boy, that would be fantastic if there was such thing, mom of a 9 wcf, Venanzio 6 wocf, Pepe 3wocf
Guest guest
To add to Torsten's info: The Aerugen vaccine for PA was granted Orphan Drug Status in the U.S. in early 2002. According to a company press release last year, market launch in the USA is scheduled for 2005. M Torsten Krafft wrote: >Hi , > >there is indeed such a thing as a vaccine for PA. I have heard the term before but I do not know what it means. Thank you again, mom of a 9 wcf, Venanzio 6 nocf, Pepe 3 nocf > >
