Guest guest
Hi all: Anyone who receives Social Security Disability is eligible for medicare two years after their official date of disability. But remember, you forfeit the first five months anyway. This is an example: I got sick on July 3, 1997. SS agreed my date of disability was July 3, 1997. After the five months that they take away, that took the date to December of 1997. I didn't apply for SS until October 30, 1998....a year and three months after I got sick. I was approved on November 17, 1998 and got my back pay on December 1, 1998 (30 days from the time I actually applied), my medicare started January 1, 2000 which was two years from my disability date minus the five months. So from the time I received my back pay in December 1998, it was 13 months and my Medicare started. I hope I didn't confuse anybody. Long story short here, it is two years and five months from the official date of disability regardless of how long you wait to apply.
