Guest guest
Carol, The doctor is correct. 75% of the cases of acute pancreatitis are either gallbladder or alcohol related. You've already eliminated alcohol as the cause for your son's acute attack, that leaves the gallbladder as the culprit. Most often though, people will have their gallbladder removed, and THEN get acute pancreatitis. In your son's case, the cart came before the horse. If you were to ask this group how many of the CP patients still HAD their gallbladder, you would find that there are only a few of us that still do. Good luck to your son. I hope he has a good recovery. With hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth South Carolina SC & SE Regional Rep. PAI, Intl. Guest guest
Hi Heidi - this has really made me feel better. Also, I had a chance to talk to one of his doctors yesterday, just before DS had his first ERCP. He'll have the gallbladder surgery in a few days. Hopefully he will eventually be out of the hospital. He naturally tends toward denial and self-pity, even over a hangnail, so this has been right up his emotional alley. I insisted we take the children over to visit yesterday, hoping to remind him that he has three little reasons to get out of that bed. I've learned enough from my own research and this list to throw out the right vocabulary at the doctor - having been through cancer with a husband I've found that most medical practitioners really need to know that a friend or family member is paying attention - and DIL's level of interest is a mystery to me. Having this list available is a really needed prop. Thank you to everybody.
