Guest guest
Ask your nutritionist about Duocal. It is a tasteless, powder additive that supplements extra calories. I have been adding it to my daughter's food since she was about 5 or 6 months old. I add to yogurt, jarred baby food, her formula (now Pediasure), etc. It costs $20 per can but our secondary insurance is covering it. Guest guest
Becky, I'm probably not going to tell you anything your dietician didn't already, but my little gal seems to really go for whole milk yogurt. I buy an organic one with " cream on top " . It tastes divine (well, that little lick off the spoon I have is mighty good but I don't need all the extra calories ). I also saw that Beech Nut baby foods has come out with baby food that has added DHA (60mg per jar) and 5g fat/110cal. per jar! That's quite a bit for premade baby food. I haven't tried it yet, as Leila isn't taking more then a token amount of solids. Good luck getting that little one to take more calories! Keeley mom to Leila 6m. wcf, and Hadley 2.5yrs. nocf Boosting A 7 Month Old's Calories? Hi, I just wanted to know if anyone has some tips on getting more calories into our seven month old daughter, as she's refusing her milk and juice, she's down to about 10 oz per day, although she'll eat just fine, so her dietician wants us to try to get some more calories into her through her food, and he's already given us lots of suggestions, but I just wondered if you had any more? Thanks, Becky, mum to Seren, 7 month old with cf.
Guest guest
One thing I used is powdered egg whites. I got bought it from Nutra/Balance, but I just did a web search for them and their web site isn't any good (looks like they were aquired by Ross?). But I bet Grandmom Bev can probably still get it for you or you might be able to find a source at a health food or specialty store. Egg whites are an excellent source of protein, and egg white powder mixes easily into warm cereals, infant formula, smoothies, shakes, pudding, yogurt -- you can probably add to mashed potatoes too. The powdered egg whites don't alter the taste of the foods -- they're just egg whites, so no fat or carbs, just good protein. Each tablespoon has 15 calories and 4 grams of protein. I used this a lot during the spring and summer when my son played sports and needed additional protein for growing muscles. I'd make huge smoothies for him with fruit, ice cream, and yogurt every night. In fact, lately I've been thinking about getting some powdered egg whites for me. According to nutrition tables, adult women my age, height and weight are supposed to get 45 grams of protein per day, and I know I don't get anywhere near that much, so I end up with wavy finger nails Kim Mom of (23 1/2 with cf and asthma) and (20 asthma no cf) > Hi, > > I just wanted to know if anyone has some tips on getting more > calories into our seven month old daughter, as she's refusing her > milk and juice, she's down to about 10 oz per day, although she'll > eat just fine, so her dietician wants us to try to get some more > calories into her through her food, and he's already given us lots of > suggestions, but I just wondered if you had any more? > > Thanks, > > Becky, mum to Seren, 7 month old with cf. Guest guest
Hi, Thanks for the yoghurt tip, Seren does have yoghurt, she seems to love dairy produce! I've never heard of Beech Nut, I usually buy Hipp Organic, Cow & Gate Organic or Heinz Organic. Is Beech Nut a US company? I'm in England. Hugs! Guest guest
Hi, Thanks for the egg white tip, unfortunately I can't use that at the moment, as they say not to give children egg white until they're 1 year old, as it's very easy to get allergic to it, so she'll have to wait a while for that, but I'll remember it for when she turns 1.
