Guest guest
Kim, Thank you for the information. I have a question. I went to the website houseofnutrition and I don't see magnesium glycinate. Can you tell us which one of their products of magnesium you feel meets the recommendation? Thank you, Lorenzen, mom of , almost 16 wcf
Guest guest
, I'm sorry, I should have been more clear. The bottle of Solgar will say on front: magnesium chelate. On the back label it will list the ingredients magnesium glycinate (this product also contains calcium). Here's the site again: http://www.houseofnutrition.com/m1.html When the page loads, look at the bottles shown on the top left and top right sides. Both are magnesium chelate (glycinate), just different quantities. The one on the left is 100 mg./100 tablets, the one on the right is 100 mg./250 tablets. The 250 tablet bottle is a much better deal. And right now, Solgar is offering a $5.00 rebate if you purchase $30 of products. I bought 4 bottles last time. I don't *ever* plan on running out again. Oh, and since n mentioned it, I better mention it too: I don't work for Solgar or any other supplement or med company. Heck, it's all I can do to teach elementary school kids how to walk through a hallway single file and without talking! In my spare time, I research, write, sleep, eat, research, write, sleep, eat... I just ate ice cream, now it's time to sleep! Kim Kim, Thank you for the information. I have a question. I went to the website houseofnutrition and I don't see magnesium glycinate. Guest guest
P.s. The magnesium tablets are rather large, or so says my daughter, who gags on anything larger than half an M & M. But the tablets are easily broken in half, and you can grind them into a fine powder with a mortar and pestle to sprinkle into fruit juice, fruit sauce, or warm cereals. Magnesium is better absorbed if taken with an acid-causing food, such as meat. I don't eat much meat anymore, so I take my magnesium with cranberry juice, citrus juices, and coffee. And I take a vitamin C tablet with my magnesium. You can also absorb magnesium through the skin. Get some Epsom salts -- which is magnesium sulfate. Pour some into the bath water and enjoy a nice soak. But *don't* drink the water! Remember, magnesium sulfate at high doses can cause diarrhea if taken internally. If you have a child who thinks he's too old for tub baths, then try to cajole him into a foot soak -- just add Epsom salts to a pan of warm water and soak the feet. The magnesium will be absorbed through the skin. While you're doing the Epsom salt bath soak, add some essential oils such as tea tree, eucalyptus or lavender. The steamy vapors from the tub, mixed with the essential oils, will clean the bugs out of the lungs and sinuses. Just don't let the water splash into the eyes -- watch children closely. You can also buy magnesium creams. Compounding pharmacies, such as Bev's pharmacy can make these for you based on a doctor's prescription. Or I have a recipe if anyone is interested and if I can find it again. Maybe n can put her fingers on the recipe faster than I. Okay, now I'm off to bed. Guest guest
Hi Bev, Yes, it's important for everyone to get adequate magnesium. If you are low in magnesium then calcium will move out of your bones and teeth and deposit into tissues, joints and cells causing osteoporosis, arthritis and other inflammatory conditions. The NIH reports that many post-menopausal women do not get enough magnesium. Magnesium is natural -- it's responsible for over 300 enzymatic actions, and it is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body and the second most crucial cation after potassium. You should be getting a ratio of 2:1 (2 parts calcium to 1 part magnesium). Our students get out of school June 20, and I'm still hoping for a summer school position. I need something to bring in summer income! I'm considering CFRI again this summer (July this year, right?). But I'll have to see what airfare prices are and whether I can crack open my dusty piggy bank. Kim Dear Kim, Your always so very informative. Is --would that be helpful for me to take at my age as well.? It sure sounds like it would. I only take natural supplements now BUT , I take 9 each day in am. I would think it would be. By the way, how are the " school days " coming along. ?? When are you all out up there. Ours are out now. -that's why I am taking all -yes, all to beach. some will be coming & going , due to jobs, etc & cant ask off for full week.
