Guest guest
Hey Heidi: How about including the North Carolina folks in all of that too! Would love to come back to SC. As far as wanting to go to MUSC, you may have to demand a referral or call down there and find out how you can get a referral. Sometimes these docs play the " politics " game and if they have an issue with one person at a place (or they think they have an issue) they won't refer. I have a friend up here with pancreatitis. They referred her to another hospital and when she asked about Dr. Cotton at MUSC, they asked if she was a friend of his. She said no but she had a friend (me) who goes there and they said well go to this " other doc " and he is just as good. I tried to tell her and her statement to me was " I don't want to tick the doctors off. " Turns out this other doctor was nothing more than a general surgeon in Durham which is the same distance as MUSC, who did an ERCP and found nothing. Brought her back in two weeks and did an endoscopic ultrasound....found nothing. Why they didn't do it all at once I have no idea. They were looking for SOD. A general surgeon is not a pancreatic specialist. Sometimes SOD is very very hard to spot. I think she got a raw deal because of the politics and she would not stand up for herself. I do remember being sent to MUSC by that same group of docs and when I wanted to go back the second time they said that Dr. Cotton could do nothing for me! I remember sending Dr. Cotton a fax and telling him the whole story and everything the GI doc said here was a lie to keep me away from MUSC. There is a lot of jealousy among docs and if a doctor does not want you to go to another doctor who is a specialist in the field you need then the best thing is to get away from them! I will get off my soap box now Heidi, just had to have my say about this one from experience. Kaye.........NC
