I was dischared from the hospital yesterday and it is wonderful to

be home. I surgeon felt very good about the surgery. He removed a

lot of scar tissue made the duct larger, connected it to the

duodenum and put in a stent that will need to be removed in 6

weeks. I will be out of work for 8 weeks and dont know what I will

do with all this idle time. I am cut from bow to stern and am

extremely sore but I am very hopeful that the sphinteroplasty will

keep me from ever having a whipple and the procedure may be

available to others with sod, is not available at many

institutions. Unfortunately there is some irreversible damage to

the pancreas. I have to admit I received excellent care at MUSC

DDC, except for the FOOD, absolutely disgusting. I agree with ya'll

that garbage should never be given to sick people. Heidi I am so

very very sorry that you have been having such a horrible time, I

will continue to pray that you have relief soon. I would love

to meet I am not so sure when my follow up will be but I think it is

on Nov 12. I will know for sure tomorrow. I hope that every one

has been doing well and I will try to catch up on all the post I

have missed this week. That you for all the support and warm

thoughts

If only for the food, I'm sure you're glad to be home, hahaha!

Since you have 8 weeks off, hopefully that will be enough time to

fully recuperate and heal well. Certainly after such an extreme

surgery, being cut from bow to stern, yikes, there will be a lot of

healing required and probably some pain from the surgery site. I

hope that doesn't bother you too much and that you have plenty

of oral pain relief. I didn't realize that this procedure required

such a long opening.

I, too, hope we can get together sometime. I would love to get all

the SC members together at the same time, and once everyone

is feeling better, that will be my goal. One of our SC members,

Floyd, is back at MUSC, and might have been one of your

neighbors in the hospital, without you even realizing it. That's

NOT the way I'd like us all to get together, but with everyone's

track record lately, that may be the only way it will happen. I just

wish right now that I wasn't bedridden myself, or I'd get up there

to see everyone.

I hope you heal well and without pain, and that this procedure

will rid you of your SOD. I forgot to ask, who did the surgery? I'm

looking for a good pancreatic surgeon.

For some reason, every time I mention MUSC to my GI, he

doesn't pick up on my comments, and starts talking about other

hospitals, so I don't know whether he's got some sort of issue

with them, or what the deal is. I guess I need to pursue this

further, bring it up again tomorrow at my appointment and find

out what his reservations are. He wants me to go to Mayo, but

that is NOT in-network, and since I haven't won the lottery, going

there won't be an option. MUSC is in-network, and that might be

where I end up.

Take it easy now, and keep in touch whenever you feel up to it.

With hope and prayers,

Heidi
