Guest guest
, Is he on Zyrtec? It helps all kinds of allergies. All 3 of mine are on it and it is safe for young kids. It does come in a liquid. As for the food allergies. Is he allergic to milk or does he have a Lactose Intolerance? Eggs are a funny thing can't help you there. But some of my friends with healthy kids that have allergies to eggs have seen there kids out grow the allergy. Guest guest
Regarding Zyrtec, check with the CF specialist before using it in someone who has CF - it is an antihistamine that dries the mucous and in CF that can make it thicker and more difficult to move or expel, leading to greater risk of bacterial growth in the mucous. Ideally, you want non-antihistamine solutions to control the allergies .... avoiding the offending allergens (I know that's difficult when you already love the family pets). Some docs prescribe Intal inhalers for use on a regular, preventative basis for allergies. Guaifenesin (expectorant) can help thin the mucous to make it easier to move when allergies cause congestion. Nasal congestion can be irrigated to flush out allergens. Itchy eyes can be treated with eye drops such as Opticrom. Of course, some with CF have allergies significant enough that the risks/benefits of using antihistamines have to be weighed and sometimes the antihistamines will win out ... I would consider them as a last resort M

Guest guest
My nephew is severely allergic to a lot of food including soy and animals. (his reaction is anaphylactic with most things) he can eat rice though. He drinks a product called rice dream (they also make an ice cream type desert) being allergic to the milk protein, I wouldn't think that the ensure would be advisable, isn't it milk based? Don't they make a soy based one? I guess this will be one more thing to learn about. good luck. advice please I just found out yesterday that Noah is allergic to our cats. Obviousely not horribly, cause we have had the cats since he was born and he has never had a severe reaction. He is also allergic to milk protein and egg whites. I am now not sure what he can an can not eat. If he can have soy milk or can he go back to ensure plus. ANy advice would be greatly appreciated. mom of Breanna 11 wocf and adhd and Noah 3cf and allergies
Guest guest
, When my daughter was about Noah's age, I had her allergy tested because she had horrible allergies. We were suprised when she tested reactive to cats because I never saw her react after being around them. Our herd of cats were never allowed in the house (cats are essential creatures to have when you live on a dairy farm) but she was always outside cuddling and carrying them around. However, over the years her cat allergy got worse. Now, she can't even be around them without her asthma flaring up (wheezes like a freight train) and her eyes will swell and itch. Her worst allergy was dust mites and mold. She went through allergy shots and they helped greatly for a while but we still avoided the causes as much as possible. To this day she must sleep with a dust-mite proof case on her pillow or she wakes up with a stuffy nose, wheezy, puffy eyes with dark circles, and headachey. She also tested positive to egg whites though I never saw any reaction when she ate eggs. Our allergy-asthma doctor (who also filled in for my son's CF doctor when the CF doctor was away) strongly cautioned about flu shots. Apparently the flu vaccine is incubated in eggs. I asked if this meant should never have a flu vaccine, and she said no, but they would give in smaller doses and watch her to acclimate her. But I never had her get the flu shot. So you might want to ask about this at your next check up and then do some research before flu vaccine season next fall. Maybe their are different ways they prepare the vaccine? Kim I just found out yesterday that Noah is allergic to our cats.
