Guest guest
I know whatever I do that I can depend on you! Would you please send me a few of the booklet CF in the classroom? I still have the videos from the education day but those would be really helpful ... again! Thank you for being there for all of us! Guest guest
Hi there, I think that some of your concerns are the same most of us have as our children " jump " to the big kids arena, BUT-------I have seen Chris. he will do well I think your idea of tutoring him & him feeling more confident with the " extra " help to go on with new year..AND his getting out of the school with the hassles..WILL BE GREAT...... ..You will see a spurt of him wanting to learn & getting into the groups of kids that feel that way & as you said ....found a group of kids that wouldn't bully him... DO THE 504..etc now. get it all cleared ahead with the teachers ........principal... & the school nurse. If you what some literature to take to them ., you know I will send to you. Take it with you when you do the 504, etc........... Be prepared as you never thought you could be .~~~~~~~~~~~~ Do it all with a BIG SMILE on your face , & start out with " I know you all do a good job with the students & I just want to make it as easy as possible for you all AND for Chris.......as I know the students are your first concern. We , as parents are here for him as well. " -------of course, this is while holding your 504 papers too:):) ALSO/OR---- He could take some summer school classes or " helpers " . check the " Y " and the school board office on where they are located. If not around you.....then get some books from library ..ask them for the ones the home schoolers use. ..You know what his weakest subjects are.... work on a few of them. DON'T HEAVY DUTY him all summer. Just maybe before he is to go back . He will feel more confident .... Gosh , that & a new pair of shoes will set him up great :) Best wishes, LOVE & HUGS, grandmomBEV Questions regarding school issues Good morning all, I have a couple questions to the parents of a cfer, actually to everyone! Christian was promoted to the 6th grade and while I am happy for him I don't feel that he is ready. Since he wasn't diagnosed until 2 years ago and since I have been educated by persons on this list regarding 504 plans and all I feel he is slipping through the cracks and don't know what to do. I think they only promoted him to get him out of their school. I also have to admit that I am kinda scared for him to move on to the big middle school because I remember how bad it was when my daughter went there. On the other hand, I don't want him to be left behind his friends. He has found a good group of kids that finally don't bully him. Should I contact the school, the school board, or should I just allow him to go forward? This past year was really a nightmare for us, almost weekly teachers were writing notes home telling us that he wasn't going to pass and then even when he kinda gave up and didn't do all his work they go ahead and pass him. I just don't know what to do. My husband and I were thinking that we would get him into some major tutoring during the summer vacation and hope for the best but I don't know if that is the right thing to do or not. I don't want him to get swept under the rug but I don't want him to struggle either. Health wise he is doing very well, in fact he is up to about 84 pounds now and I really believe that the extra stuff during school (shakes and treatments) has been a benefit to him but that is also why I think the teachers just want him gone. Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you sorry for the rambling. Guest guest
I think you could successfully tutor him over the summer if he is willing to put in the effort it would take. What areas does he struggle in? There are some good resourses out there that could help him catch up. Guest guest
If it were me, I would go ahead and get him into a tutoring program like Huntington or Sylvan and have him move ahead. If he goes in to the 6th grade behind he will only loose interest quickly and feel dumb. Feeling like the dumb kid in class is not, for most kids, a motivator. If you get him the tutoring, and get him to or above his grade level it will do wonders for his self esteem at school. Get a plan together and contact the school about his needs. If he needs treatments and snacks during school to keep him healthy then by all means, he should have them. Have you considered putting him in a different school? My daughter goes to a Catholic school and I haven't had a problem. Of course, she is only in pre-k3 and next year pre-k4, but they are great about getting her the enzymes before she eats. They also had expressed a willingness to do treatments when she was there if she were to need them. Maybe a smaller middle school would be better for him? More personal attention and more caring. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Questions regarding school issues Good morning all, I have a couple questions to the parents of a cfer, actually to everyone!
