Guest guest
Karyn, Thank you for the advice. I think I would be too embarrassed to use the motorized carts. As it is I get embarrassed my handicapped placards. I know what you mean about invisible illness. Last year we took our two boys (3 & 5) to the mall to see Santa. Weel it was one of my bad days and it was all I could do to get there so parked in the handicapped space. When we came out of the mall the local sheriffs were doing checks on the handicap placards. Naturally when they saw us they assumed we misusing the placard. We were questioned for almost an hour. I showed them my ID card from the DMV, and they weren't satisfied with that and still wanted to issue me a ticket. I talked them into calling their supervisor whom then called my Doctor to verify that I did in fact need the placard, due to the pain, and shortness of breath that comes with it. If they had issued the ticket it would have a big fight in court and a fine of over $300.00. I think they were so pissy about it because one of the local news stations had run a big story on the abuse of the placards by collage students at UCLA. Needless to say it was embarrassing and I now carry a letter from my doctor to go along with ID card from the DMV in case it ever happens again. Guest guest
Karyn: I too have used the motorized carts in the stores several times. I have also had my hubby push me a couple times in a wheelchair. I didn't like it but I thought aobut it and figured I can sit home or I can have him push me! Beats staying home. Comment on the handicapped placard, you can get a handicapped plate for your car and just renew it every year. Doc only has to sign an application one time. I got a placard when I had the vena cava problem and it expired in September. When I went back to the doctor (not the same one, mine had retired) and asked to have another handicap application signed, she REFUSED! It said permanent disability on it (it always does) and she said she did not " believe in them. " What a hag. Anyway, this is how stupid she is, she signed the application for the plate because it did not have the word " temporary " on it and it is permanent. She was just being a hag that day. Wouldn't give me a prescriptoin for an blood sugar monitor (doesn't believe in that either). Needless to say I am looking for a new doc, but where I live there are not that many and most are not taking new patients! If you all remember, this is the doc who wanted me to give HER my health care power of attorney and said that she could over-ride my husband because " we can keep a rock alive these days " AND informed me that if I got really sick she would wait 3-4 days before doing anything! Gee thanks doc. Evil, evil woman! Just blowing off steam Kaye
