Guest guest
Hi Torsten, You mentioned the email provider I use so I thought I'd add to your post, if it's okay. For me, the benefits of my email provider are: 1) it's free 2) it has really cute graphics (okay, so I like 'em!) 3) it's easy to send their animated and musical e-cards 4) it's easy to create folders for filing email that I want to save 5) it has an easy-to-use address book 6) it supports environmental causes The negative side is that it doesn't offer a ton of storage space, especially if you belong to several internet groups and also get private email. Because of this, I have to either get list/group mail in digest form, (which I hate because a lot of internet jibberish comes through), or opt out of getting individual emails. I found the perfect solution for all my yahoogroups is to set my mail preference to " no mail. " This way, I don't have to worry about bouncing email, or my mail box getting too full, or chance not seeing a private email because it happened to get mixed with a ton of group mail. To change your yahoogroup mail options, just go to the top of this page where it says " Edit My Membership. " When that page pops up, scroll down to the part where it asks how you want to get your mail. There are four options: individual daily email, announcements from list owner only, digest, or no mail. If you click " no mail, " then you don't get any daily mail. All you have to do when you're ready to read the mail from CF Parents (or any yahoo group), is just go to www.yahoogroups.com and log in. All your yahoo groups will show up, and you click on the group that you want to read mail, and that group's home page loads. You will immediately see the five latest messages, but if you click on " Messages " in the left-hand side bar then you can read all the messages (sometimes there are so many messages, that you might need to also click " Previous " to go back where you left off reading the day before). Believe me, I find it a whole lot easier to keep track of email this way and I never have to worry about my email box becoming full -- and I never have to worry about accidently deleting an email or missing mail while I'm away for an extended while. I hope this helps. Oh, one thing I noticed with yahoo -- for about one week after I change my email settings, for some reason, yahoo will change them back to " daily individual email " again. So you have to keep going back to reset it to " no mail, " until yahoo's brain gets the message. Hope this helps. Kim Hi, thanks for mentioning that. During the last week Yahoo has put at least 30 members of the group to bouncing status. This usually happens when your e-mail account is full, but from personal experience I know that it can happen for other reasons to. In the past I was at least able to unbounce members on my own, but today I can only send out reactivation requests. It's very time consuming and frustrating to do that and since almost all bouncing addy's are yahoo- or hotmail-users I can only recommend to use other mail providers with larger accounts and less software problems. I think the provider www.care2.com, that Kim Payne uses is a good one and maybe others can recommend a free and easy to handle provider too. The bad thing about Yahoo is, that they remove you from all lists without warning and without telling you about it at once. All of a sudden you don't receive mail and can't write to the list anymore. And there is nothing I can do about it, sorry. I work with two accounts at the same time, so that I have a back-up just in case. But of course handling two accounts doesn't make things easier :-(( Peace Torsten, dad of Fiona 5wcf e-mail: torstenkrafft@w...
Guest guest
Hi Kim, thanks for your explanations! Just one thing, except from frequent posters like you I prefer it, when members use the " Special Notices " option. Reason is, that people may forget about their list membership and with more than 500 members it is impossible for me to check, what adresses are still active. So I change the no-mails to special notices and send out a few messages to find out who is still there and who is not. Aside from that, if anyone knows a free mail provider, who offers accounts with space for say 5MB and 500 messages, that would be a good alternative for the yahoo and hotmail clients.
