Hello,

Just wondering if any of you have symptoms from excess acid

production in their stomachs? I have been diagnosed with gastritis,

excessive acid production and a huge hiatle hernia. My bowel

motility has slowed to constipation too, but with a very soft stool.

I have chronic 'belly aches' that wake me in the middle of the night

that feel like a punch in my upper stomach, just under my breastbone,

that feels like a wave of pain. Standing up and walking is the only

thing that helps to make it eventually ease up. The belly aches

chronically started after the removal of my gallbladder in June

2000. The hernia was just diagnosed in Dec. 2002.

I have terrible pain under my right rib cage that pulsates into my

back and sometimes stabs up into my shoulder. This pain has been with

me for nearly 7 years and my gastro has had my liver checked. But he

won't answer my questions about what other tests he has done. He

says everything is 'fine.' Now I am having severe 'runner's stitch'

pain in my right side and especially at night I am having to lie

under a heating pad to help, just so I can breathe in without extreme

pain.

I avoid complaining at home, and when I mention these things to my GI

he just glances at me and says to continue taking my Nexium as

prescribed and walks out. I am in the process of being referred to a

new GI, as I feel this one is overlooking things because I am 34 yrs

old.

What are some specific symptoms and questions I should mention at my

next appointment, inorder to get him to take me seriously?

And, would having a maternal first cousin, with a tumor on the tail

of her pancreas surgically removed along with her spleen (May 16,

2003, haven't heard results yet, but thought to be benign; Dr thinks

hereditary) be something that should be mentioned to my GI?

Thanks for all your opinions and help,

Sandi
