Hi!

My pancreas pain is exactly in the spot you described - right below the

breastbone. When I had my first attack they thought it was gall bladder

and I guess it was, but due to the pancreatitis my gallbladder ended up

inflamed. Then I was diagnosed with sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction and

my bile duct was cut several times, and finally I got diagnosed with

pancreas divisum. I just got back from Virginia Mason in Seattle where

they cut my pancreatic duct (sphincterotomy). I was really hopeful that

would take care of it but it's starting to hurt again - not unbearable yet.

Other times it takes me to the emergency room. I just joined this group

so I'm sure there are tons of others who have gone thru all of this too.

Anyway, it sounds like your doc was making too light of things and you're

smart to go to someone else. I would definitely ask for an ERCP to check

your pancreas. Even with pancreatitis your enzymes won't always be elevated

(amylase and lipase) but that doesn't mean you don't have it.

I wish you the best!

Anita

P.S. And yes, I take Nexium for excess stomach acid, plus Pancrease (digestive

enzymes).
