You said it yourself, NEVER GIVE UP HOPE! Attitude is half the battle I think. Go in there knowing things WILL be better. I believe Dr. Sutherland is an Angel. For without him along with the support and help from the extraordinary people of the P.A.I. Brandan would not have gotten his second chance. Although Brandan lives with unexplained residual pain from his surgery, he is BETTER! He no longer endures the horrific attacks of PAINcreatitis, and he is able to eat, anything and everything! IT is wonderful, it has now been 13 months since his surgery and he is not diabetic either, although Dr. Sutherland thought perhaps he might be, since they were only able to harvest 129,000 islets, but his sugars remain normal. Although he still takes minimal amounts of pain medication it is not near as much as he was on before the surgery. Our hopes are that within time these too will be a thing of the past. All we can do is continue to take things " A DAY AT A TIME. " Try not to dwell on the what ifs and concentrate on the what will be! When your day arrives think only good thoughts and go into surgery knowing that this is the first day of the rest of your life. I am also sending lots of prayers for your 4 yr. old. I know how traumatic it can be seeing your child ill and having to face tests ontop of what your already dealing with. BUT as always try not to worry and again take things " A DAY AT A TIME. " Please let me know how you make out and if there is anything I can do, by all means don't hesitate to ask. As always keeping you and yours in our thoughts and prayers...Keep smiling(cuz sometimes its all one can do!) TTFN..: ) Peg " It truly is amazing how one person can make a difference.
