Dear Kiddietalk:

Thank you for the exhaustive information....as I am dealing with 4 children,

3 with needs, some more than others...I sure do like when things are simple.

So if I may, can you suggest, exactly what EPA and EFA I should purchase and

then how to dose them for a 13 year old 70 pounder, a 6 year 42 pounder and

a 2 year old 30 pounder? My 6 year old is tube fed and already takes a good

size dose of Flax seed - which has help tremendously. But the other two are

very picky oral eaters...yeah, good luck. I have detoxed the youngest two

and in the two year old I have seen TREMENDOUS change...I have no doubt that

he will " loose " his autistic disorder dx before he starts school (this is

when he is to be reevaluated) and although I know he is still apraxic, he is

making huge strides....amazing.

Oh and why pomegranate juice?

Thanks in advance....

Hi !

Did you read The Late Talker book? There is an entire chapter in

there as to why the EFAs for speech -and more here

http://www.cherab.org/information/dietaryeffects/Englemed.html

http://www.cherab.org/information/indexinformation.html#diet

Here's my son Tanner's story

http://www.cherab.org/information/familiesrelate/letter.html

Here's Tanner's story on EFAs from Dr. Stordy and Malcolm Nicholl's

book The LCP Solution (another good book to read -and Malcolm is

also one of my co authors of The Late Talker book)

3rd story down here

http://www.drstordy.com/stories.html or here

http://www.cherab.org/information/dietaryeffects/LCPbook.html

As it said in the archives all that matters are formula, dosage, and

quality of the oils. Once you get the " right " EFAs in your child

you'll probably want to stop the flax because it will change the

ratios -and besides flax is pretty useless for what we are looking

for even though it's helped already. It's healthy -but we are not

just looking for healthy -we are looking for healthy and right

formula to help the best. Let us know how much more you see in

surges once you switch EFA formulas. Right formula anecdotally is

higher Omega 3 then Omega 6 typically a 5 to 1 ratio...and higher

EPA then DHA (both are Omega 3s but you want the EPA to be higher)

Three brands over the years people have used with good results have

been ProEFA -Nordic Naturals, Efalex -used to be by Efamal -Dr.

Stordy's formula but now manufactured by Nutricia which owns GNC -

and EyeQ by Equazen.

Here's a list of sources for those EFAs people mainly use

http://www.cherab.org/information/dietaryeffects/efabasics.html

Why POM? With apraxia you have to look outside the box because

there's so little research (or caring) about " late talker "

children. EFAs are not the only things good for the heart....Pom is

too. Dr. Renai Jonas Tanner's SLP recommended we try it knowing of

Tanner's constipation because she said it's known as the " wonder

drink " I really love it and keep bottles of it in our fridge and

make sure that Tanner drinks it each day -so do I.

If you check the archives when last year we flew into NYC for the Holidays

Tanner missed a few days and became constipated again...MOM worked.

Since then will not travel without POM so we don't need MOM)

Why does it work?...only theories, there's no research on it.

Dr. Jonas is also the one that is trying the Vital Stim with Tanner

right now and she is also the one that told me about the Green

Goodness by Bolthouse Farms I posted about...doesn't 'anyone' else

here use that?! It's awesome stuff and I mean they sell it even in

Wal-Mart now. Dr. Jonas is also a DAN! Healthcare Practitioner

according to this site...Go figure! I never knew that!

http://www.autismlink.com/services_search.php?zipcode=33430

Anyone in Florida -don't know about her DAN skills since that's not

what we've been doing -but one awesome SLP that's for sure!

Here's the clip of an archive I posted on Green Goodness from last

month

Not being able to take EFAs has meant rare and typically life

threatening metabolic disorders....and even then those are being

treated with pure DHA

http://www.martinezfoundation.org/

Tanner's SLP Dr. Jonas for example has a patient right now with

Leigh's Disease which is " a rare inherited neurometabolic disorder "

that is degenerative.

http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/leighsdisease/leighsdisease.htm

The child isn't allowed to take fish oils (I told her about Dr.

ez's work to share with these parents) -but was allowed to

take Bolthouse Farms " Green Goodness " and apparently she is

improving! Now that's interesting because she is supposed to be

regressing. She said the ingredients of Green Goodness may help with

DNA. Anyone else use this stuff? I've been buying Green Goodness

for awhile now because I drink it, but no way can I get my family to

drink it...but just figured out I can trick them by adding it to

fruit smoothies! (and add Pom Wonderful too!)

GG's made of polyphenol and phytonutrient-rich plant extracts, and

contains

spirulina, open cell chlorella, broccoli, green tea, spinach,

barley, wheat

grass, blue green algae, and an array of other healthy ingredients.

To find it at a " store near you "
